Red Moon

Prologue

Pawn of the White Snake

All was surrounded by the pitch-black silencing grip of night. The prestige Mikoyose manor sat quietly in the glistening moonlight. Too the east of the large estate laid the Land of Fire, and to the west the Land of Grass. Most candlelight had flickered out long ago, leaving the dark tranquility of sleep. One candle still flickered in the blackness of night.

I paced my bedchamber, looking at the child that lay curled in sleep in its cradle. So... I think, letting my mind wander. They think that this... child will even compare to the power I possess...! Devious thoughts churn through my mind. Earlier that evening, a pair of elders from the clan visited the newborn. After an hour alone with the child, they proclaimed that this... half-breed would be one of the most powerful the clan has ever seen! And that would mean the child would be proclaimed leader of our clan...

The baby was delivered three nights earlier, by my lunacies brother and some two-bit ninja that is still a Chunin! Hisakata said it was love. What a fool.

A deathly chill suddenly fills the air. I shudder, as a wave of power washes over me.

"Orochimaru-sama... I didn't think you would come here yourself..."

"Yes... I'm afraid time is short as well... So, where is the one I have been hearing about...?"

"Y-yes master... she is here..." Orochimaru has fully... phased for lack of a better word, through the wall by now. "My lordship, please hurry, the more time here the more time Hisakata has to discover us."

He turned his miraculous gaze upon me, and I instantly silence myself.

"Yabun.... please. You have no need to worry...." he lifts up his hand and puts it on the child's forehead, as if checking for a fever. Suddenly, Orochimaru's eyes grew large and he started to chuckle to himself.

"Yabun, you have done well." He cast a glance and smiled at me. "So, as your reward, you will train my next Body....." Orochimaru melted into the floor, his last lingering note of body still ringing trough the air. It was a privilege to get beaten by Orochimaru-sama's next body, much less train it.

But in the back of my head I knew that with this great honor.... Failure would be unacceptable.
