Searching and Waiting
She sits on the dock often, just staring out to sea with a wide smile on her face. It is nearly impossible to decipher what she is thinking, but it is plain to see, through those vibrant green orbs, that whatever thoughts they may be, they are happy.
Smoothing out her bright yellow dress and adjusting the straps on her sandal, she'll tell anyone that will listen how someday, she'll find her Prince Charming and run away from this place with him. She sings passionately of love and eternity, never once stopping to imagine that that day might never come. She believes too much in it. It is almost real to her now.
Away from the dream, there are those who watch this girl. Very few understand her emotions — in fact, she wouldn't be surprised if they thought her simply a silly romantic without a clue of how the real world works. At this she shakes her head, the corners of her mouth twitching upward grimly. No, they just don't know.
But as these other onlookers pass her by each day, there are the two who continues to gaze at her, watching her every single day, practicing and training and looking up for a fleeting second now and then just to make sure she's still okay, still sitting there as joyful as can be.
Leaning up against the stone wall, a lanky, red-haired teenager tosses his blitzball into the air and spins it on one finger, eyeing the back of the girl, waiting for that moment when she'll look back and smile that brilliant smile at him. His greatest wish... it is for her to look his way.
Nothing.
Up above, throwing himself into his practice with everything he has, a younger boy, blue-eyed and sandy-haired, collapses into the railing that surrounds the upper landing. He peers over the edge to stare at her far-away figure. He wonders if she knows that he's doing this for her, that he wants so badly to be what she wants that he is ready to die trying.
Nothing.
They are all still searching and still waiting, and the girl will never know that what she is looking for is right behind her, if she'd only turn around.
