When she wasn't looking, Sawyer knelt by Aaron's crib; offering a rare smile as he placed a small teddy bear beside him; one item he was willing to part with.

Once when he heard her crying softly, he walked into her tent silently and sat beside her. He wrapped his arm around her shoulders, pulling her close – letting her release all that she carried with her.

After stealing a jar of peanut butter, he left it in Claire's tent with a note attached – that read: "from a friend".

One night the sound of him crying woke Sawyer and carefully, he made his way into her tent – not making a sound as she slept; he sat beside the young boy and began reading to him from Judy Bloom; and little did he know she was awake as she listened to him – comforted by his presence.

He noticed the look of horror on her face as she clung to her son; he walked over to her and embraced her, kissing her forehead and telling her it would be all right.
