The Sorting of Jack Sparrow

Jack Sparrow walked down the aisle in the Great Hall, looking at all the items on the walls and wondering what their worth was. Would anybody notice if some of it was missing? Hogwarts certainly had its share of riches. He knew he'd enjoy his time at the school, though what he'd be doing there, he still wasn't quite sure.

The first year students, Jack Sparrow included, lined up in the front of the Hall to be sorted into their houses. He watched at the other boys and girls were sorted. They all went up and sat on a stool while a large hat was placed on their heads. The hat spoke! It called out the names of the four houses. The student would then go to the table of their assigned house. It seemed a simple enough system.

When Jack's name was called, he swaggered up to the stool, and picked up the hat. He placed it on his head as he sat down.

"Jack Sparrow…what house shall I put you in?" the hat mused. "You wouldn't do well in Ravenclaw, and I fear the Hufflepuffs would be afraid of you. You lack the bravery needed for Gryffindor, but I think Slytherin would be best. You have all the qualities it takes to succeed in the house of the snake. Enjoy your time in…Slytherin!"

The students at the Slytherin table applauded this announcement. Jack jumped down from the stool, and made a grand gesture of bowing to the audience, hat still on his head. In a quick move, he whipped the hat off his head, and stuffed it into the pocket of his robes, and began to walk over to his table.

Before he could get too far, a hand clapped on his shoulder, pulling him back to the stool. "I believe you forgot something?" the man who was in charge of the sorting said, a stern look on his face.

Jack furrowed his brow and looked around. "Forgot something? I don't believe I did," he said smoothly.

The older man held his hand out. "The Sorting Hat, if you please," he demanded.

"Oh that," Jack said with a smile. "I didn't know you meant the hat." He frowned while taking the Sorting Hat out of his robes. It would have made him a very rich man to have sold that hat…Alas, he'd have to make his fortune another way, some day.
