Disclaimer: Naruto does not belong to me. If it did, it would definitely not be the way it is now.

This is AU-ish, but not very much.

Demon Child-

Naruto's first words were 'demon child'.

When he was young, Naruto refused to speak. No one knew why. Even the Hokage, who treated the child as his own son, could convince the boy to repeat the syllables he would enunciate, trying to coax a word from the blond. But the boy was stubborn; he would simply stare at the Hokage, every once in a while springing up to run away and chase after something no one else saw.

It was strange, to say the least. But Sarutobi wouldn't push it. He would just smile and leave Naruto to his own devices. So when the blond one day interrupted the lesson to yell "demon child", the Hokage was, to say the least, stunned, while Naruto beamed at his own brilliance and repeated, "demon child, demon child, demon child!"

Sarutobi did all he could to replace those words with something better, like his own name or Hokage or Konoha, but nothing worked. The little boy would sit, day after day, substituting the words from the old man's mouth with "demon child".

It didn't get better.

A week later, after days of Naruto not coming around to play with the Hokage, he came back. This time, he looked up proudly at Sarutobi, and the old man gasped.

On his cheeks were six lines. Each was red, as if they had been cut recently. They seemed to be trying to heal themselves over, but failing. It was a sick sight, and Sarutobi wanted to stab whoever did it.

Azure eyes widened in question as Naruto lifted a hand and pointed to himself.

"Demon child?"

AN: I don't like this very much, but I wanted to get it up. Meh. Maybe I'll revise later, like I plan on doing with all of my fics, but keep forgetting.

Anyways. Review, even if it is to tell me how lame I am. XD
