A/N: I don't own Harry Potter, mores the pity…Anyway, this was written as a short piece for ElfFlame's birthday. Enjoy!

Severus Snape's First Kiss

"Severus! There you are! I was looking for you all over the place," Lily said excitedly as she sat down next to him by the edge of the lake.

Severus shook his head, and smiled. "I've been here since I finished lunch," he replied. "I was working on our Potions project."

"Oh good, I was hoping we could work on it today. Professor Slughorn won't like it if we don't finish on time."

"When have we ever been late finishing one of his projects?"

"Never. But I don't want there to be a first time."

Severus rolled his eyes. "Trust me, I won't let you down. You know that."

Lily smiled and nodded her head. "I do trust you," she said before leaning over and kissing his cheek. "You care about good marks too much to let us fail."

Severus tried not to flush as he thought about Lily kissing his cheek. It was the first time in their friendship that she'd done so, and he rather liked it. He wondered if he could get her to do it again. "I thought we could see what happened if we added powered narwhale horn to the fluxweed," he said while handing his notes to Lily.

"Narwhale horn?" Lily asked, "Does that have any magical properties?"

"Slughorn had one in his stores. And I cut my thumb on it too," Severus said while holding out his injured hand for her to see.

Lily frowned and furrowed her brow. "You poor thing," she murmured while reaching out to touch his injured hand gently. "I hope you make sure to write that in your notes. The lengths we go to for discovery…"

"We?" Severus asked, amused.

Lily shrugged her shoulders before smiling. "Well, you…But I bet he'll take it into account when grading us. It'll be nice to show up Potter and Black again, won't it? When we take top marks and they maybe pass for second?"

"You don't think they'd cry?" Severus asked lightly, delighting at the very thought.

"No, they're too thick-headed to be upset over that," Lily replied. "They'd be more upset over drinking up the last of their Butterbeer they keep stashed in their dormitory."

"Well I'll buy you a Butterbeer on our next trip to Hogsmeade if we take top marks," Severus said.

"I will definitely hold you to that promise." After a minute of sitting in contented silence, they stood up to walk off to their Charms class. Lily slipped her arm through his as they traipsed through the grass. "It's such a nice day today, isn't it?"

Severus looked around and gave a curt nod. "It is," he said quietly as he looked down at her. The sun glinted off her auburn hair, giving her a golden aura. He'd never thought her more beautiful than at that moment. "Shall we meet in the library after dinner tonight to work on the project again?"

"Sure, I'd like that."

The two friends walked back into the school, and up to the Charms classroom. The rest of the day passed quickly, as did dinner. They spent the evening working in the library before Severus escorted Lily back to Gryffindor tower.

"Well I think we're almost set with the project," Lily said. "We can probably finish it up this weekend." When Severus smiled, she stood up on her toes and kissed his cheek impulsively. "Good night, Severus," she said before turning to the Fat Lady portrait.

"Good night, Lily," Severus whispered as he turned and walked towards the staircase. He turned and watched her walk through the portrait before leaving and returning to his dormitory.
