Why do Sensible People Fall in Love? (And one, and two, and sophistiCAIT!)

You know school girl crushes? The ones where a nice, happy, teenage girls turn head over heels for boys that don't even know they exist (sub sequentially resulting in gobs of Unrequited!Love angst)?
Yup, she had one.
Kairi, had always been the most level headed out of her friends. Hyper competitive Tidus, crack head Selphie, strange accent Wakka, oblivious Sora, and of course the secretly insecure Riku. However, Kairi had also been the most determined out them. She jumped into everything with two feet.
So, what happens when her sensibility flies out the window and she develops a massive crush that can only be properly described using the words 'schoolgirl'?
His name was Zax. And he was a whopping thirteen years older than she. He had this loverly blue hair, that Kairi dreamt of running her fingers through (among other things), and caring eyes a most rare shade of violet, which she remarked with some pride to herself, were just like hers.
So, yes. Totally unattainable, right? Well, Kairi parents had always said to shoot for the stars, so she concocted this cracked Chocobo egg plan in her brain (which was concealed by lots of pretty red hair. Did I mention Kairi had a big cranium? All the better to think with my dear).
Whenever said man was around, she would put on her most serene smile, and be a sparkling conversationalist, and use BIG ENGAGING WORDS. Sadly, most of the time when she did, he just looked at her blankly.
'He thinks I'm a total prat, just putting on airs...' she thought sadly to herself, leaning against a wall dejectedly. Then she heard a noise. It was highly reminiscent of the Mario theme on ACID.
Peering down the hall, her mouth dropped open. It was her very own buddy Sora, and...Zax? But what were they doing? Then she was small computer like devices in their hands, and the cord connecting the devices. It hit her like a ton of bricks trying to disguise itself like a dawning epiphany, the realization did. Sora, and the man of her dreams were playing Wario World? Of course, that was complete heresy, considering this was Square Enix game, but the more shocking thing was, Zax, who Kairi thought all this time was some sort of noble and suave debonair figure ala James Bond, was really every bit as fun loving as the rest of her friends were.
She turned the corner.
"Hey guys! I play winner!"
Maybe the impossible was attainable after all.

This was written for Phoenix Tamer, because she has just turned fourteen, and I love her. I love her so much; I wrote an entire several paragraph crack pairing fluff fest just for her.
