Wednesday had always been the longest day for her.

She knew that once Wednesday was over, it was only to more days to the weekend. Thursday made everything speed up, but getting to and through Wednesday was always trying.

This Wednesday was no exception.

Jack had been away on business in Washington for the past week, and this morning she had woken up and did the same thing she had every morning for the two days.

First, she'd get violently ill as soon as she stood up. Then , she'd pull out a pregnancy test from her cabinet, follow its instructions, and stare at the little stick and wait.

When she'd first gone to the pharmacy on Monday morning, the woman behind the counter had smiled warmly and rang up her purchases. After the negative she received that day, and throwing up again the next morning, she decided another was in order.

The woman behind the counter gave a her a funny look when she showed up with six tests. She had politely leaned forward and quietly said, "Are you sure you need this many?"

After paying for her purchase Sam went back home and did another one. It was positive.

Not taking it at face value, and ever the scientist, she decided that Wednesday would have to solve it for her. There was one for and one against her being pregnant.

She heaved herself up from the porcelain god, and proceeded to brush her teeth. Her stomach was trembling at the idea that she was really pregnant. Pregnant with Jack's child. Wow.

She carefully opened the box and followed the directions. She had thought those three minutes staring at the little stick were the longest in her life, but she found out the hours of waiting until Jack got home to tell him that she really was going to have his baby, their baby, were agony.

Around 2000 she heard keys in the front door. At about 2001 She was facing her fiancé, dressed in his blues, her hands wringing each other with a look of trepidation on her face.

He instantly picked up on her demeanor and walked towards her.

She was standing in the entry way to the kitchen, looking at her feet, when he grabbed her hands with his left, and tilted her chin up with her right. A pleading look crossed his face as he stated as calmly as possible, "Carter, what's wrong?"

Her small whisper, "Nothing, hopefully," reached his ears and he stared at her, watching her eyes well up with unshed tears as he patiently waited for her to continue.

She tried. "Jack, well, I'm…I, ummm, I…I'm pregnant." She was finally able to say.

His face remained inscrutable as his eyes closed and a small sigh escaped his lips. She looked down at her feet again, closing her eyes and allowing the tears to fall. It was too soon, she knew that, it was too much.

She kept her eyes closed as his hand reached out and settled his palm against her stomach, but when he pushed her back against the door jamb, not lightly, but not forcefully, her eyes met his.

The kiss was exquisite. It was hungry and passionate, and loving and tender, and throughout the duration his hand stayed firmly on her belly as if protecting the life inside. When he finally broke from her lips he settled his body against hers, and whispered tenderly in her ear.

"This is incredible."

As he began kissing her again, much more demanding, then lifting her hips to wrap her legs around him, she thought that the wait just might have been worth it.

Wednesdays may be long, but that's only because there is something so sweet at the end of them.

A/N I wonder what will come next... wait, that'd be thursday...

Would love to hear what you think about these little stories!
