Quick Fuuma and Kamui fic to get a plotbunny out of my head. Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle does not belong to me.

"Leaving so soon?"

Kamui turned on his heel, nails already extending out of the tips of his fingers and curling in towards his palm.

"No need to get so defensive," Fuuma smiled, taking a step toward the vampire, his smile widening as Kamui took a step back.

"It's because you are here," Kamui replied, eyes narrowing.

"I'll never get tired of hearing you say that," Fuuma smirked, and Kamui scowled in return.

"What do you want?"

"Would you believe it if I said I wanted to bid you an amicable farewell?" Fuuma grinned, watching Kamui's eyes glint gold in apprehension, "That would be a no, then."

"Don't make me repeat myself."

"Alright," Fuuma said, "I want to know where you're going."

Kamui's eyes narrowed and he took a threatening step towards the man.

"You will never know."

"I thought not," Fuuma replied.

"Your brother is that hunter who's after Subaru. Do you think I would ever tell you where we were planning on going next?"

"No," Fuuma admitted, "But I thought that our alliance in this world may have made you trust me enough to believe that every movement I make isn't to press a knife to your back."

"Our alliance was one of convenience," Kamui hissed, "To make sure the people of this country survive."

He gestured violently to the water in the underground cavern below the platform on which they were standing for emphasis.

"You care for them. You've changed, Kamui," Fuuma smiled. Kamui lunged forward; Fuuma caught the vampire's wrists neatly in his hand and leaned in to ghost his lips across his exposed neck.

"Settle down. I'm not your enemy."

"Nor are you my friend," Kamui snapped, staying perfectly still and breathing slowly.

"Are you still injured?" Fuuma questioned.

Kamui scowled, eyes briefly glinting gold before he made one violent movement and freed himself from Fuuma's embrace.

"No? Surely you couldn't have been moving so slow on purpose," Fuuma grinned, "Or on my good part."

Kamui didn't reply, and Fuuma smiled; Kamui refused to acknowledge the sadness behind it.

"Your brother is waiting for you."

Kamui left the underground room without a second thought; it gave him no room to feel uncomfortable, or to feel regret, and that in itself was consolation.

"You've changed, Kamui," Subaru says, just after they arrive in the country called Record.

Kamui flinches, doesn't reply and avoids his twin's eyes. In an instant, he almost understands what Subaru means when he admits that sometimes he doesn't want to run away. The hunter's brother immediately becomes the subject of his wrath, and his clenches his fist until his nails draw blood from his palm.

The only thing that made it worse was that he couldn't bring himself to hate the man.
