Hey, Y'all! Here is some Pidge and Rover angst! Because why not?! Enjoy Familiar!Rover and Witch!Katie.
Disclaimer: I do not own anything
Katie remembered when she casted her first spell. It was the greatest feeling she ever had.
She was eight. Katie was in the woods collecting herbs with her mom for healing potions. While it was dangerous for anyone that was a witch with the Witch Hunts going on, her mother refused to stop helping sick people.
Katie was looking at a bright green apple on a branch that she couldn't reach. She thought of the words that her mother taught her that moved things to her.
"Mihi!"
She blinked her amber eyes.
The green apple was right in front of her face.
Katie was in awe as she picked the apple.
It was also that moment she met someone she thought she would spend her life with. Her familiar.
A hoot dragged Katie's attention from the apple to one of the many tree branches from the apple tree.
An owl.
He had black feathers with thick green markings. The moment she laid eyes on him, she knew. Knew that he was her best friend, her partner in soul, her familiar.
He was her familiar, just like she was his witch.
"Rover."
From that day on they were almost never separated. They did everything together.
Learning magic and potions and what it means to be a witch.
Watching Matt and Dad leave as they went to explore a new land for the Garrison.
Cried together when the news came that they were "dead."
Broke into the Garrison to prove them all wrong.
Run away into the woods when the townspeople killed her mom, burning their home, and chasing them for five days.
Rover was by her side when Katie cut her hair and became Pidge.
He hid under her bed when she enrolled at the exploration school in the Garrison.
One of his feathers were in her pocket when she met Lance and Hunk.
He was on her shoulder when they met Keith and saved Shiro.
Dragged out of her home to a, once, abandoned castle by a blue winged lion.
Rover nuzzled her neck when she found Green.
Rover was always there for her.
Until he wasn't anymore.
Rover strained his wings to keep from getting pulled into the pit with the Galran knight, Haxus, who had one of his hands tight around the owl's legs.
The familiar looked into his witch's shocked amber eyes, his favorite eyes.
Rover knew what he had to do for his witch.
Pidge saw the look in her familiar's eyes.
I love you, Katie.
"NO!" Pidge yelled as she ran towards her familiar.
But it was too late.
Rover snapped his wings to his side. Gravity did the rest.
"NO!" Pidge sobbed as she watched her best friend fall into darkness.
She knew the moment Rover died.
Because an unbearable pain ran through her soul. She will always remember that pain.
The only physical reminded Pidge had of Rover is his discarded feathers from past groomings.
He was there for her for so long, for everything.
Rover wasn't with her when she told her friends the truth.
"I'm a girl...and a witch."
Pidge waited for the yelling, the 'burn her!', the anger.
But it never came.
"We've all known, Pidge," Shiro grinned as the team gave her bright smiles.
"Rover was your familiar, wasn't he?" Lance gently asked, a gentle smile appearing on his face.
Tears filled the corner of her eyes, the pain in her soul returned. "Yeah…"
Next thing Pidge knew, she was in a massive group hug.
She wished Rover was here.
Katie will never forget her familiar.
T-T What's a heart? I seem to not have one.
