A.N.: This is a short one-shot about Wally and Dick. It takes place sometime after a dangerous mission. Maybe a made up mission...whatever. Enjoy.
Rain pours on the small figure standing alone on a beach. His black hair slick against his forehead, his blue eyes watery from not just the rain, but hidden behind a pair of sun glasses. As he hears soft footsteps against the wet sand, he turns to spot his older friend.
The orange haired, green eyed, bigger teen is standing a little ways off, and his eyebrows furrow as he speaks, "What did you think you were doing? You could have been killed!"
Looking down, the smaller teen bites his lower lip as his eyes get more and more wet with tears that have yet to spill over, "I knew what I was doing."
Shaking his head angrily, Wally steps forward to grab Dick roughly by his shoulders, but his voice remains anxious and upset, "Well, I didn't. I don't think like Bat Man and you. I can't tell how your plans will turn out!"
"Wally," Dick begins, hating how weak he sounds, "I don't always know either...but this...this is what we do... It's our jobs...our lives...and we can't stop each other from doing what we do."
Wally pulls the soaked teen into a tight embrace as they both hold back their tears and words that they wish they can say, but words they don't really mean. Words that they know are untrue.
They continue to stand there in the rain as they hang onto one another, but they can never hang onto one another forever. Eventually they must part...but they'll hang onto each other as much as they can until then.
