A Promise

'Ryoma-kun, a-are you g-going to America t-to train for tennis?' Sakuno asked.

'Yes, I am.' Ryoma simple answered.

'O-okay.' She replied and quickly went back to the Girls' Tennis Courts.

"Was that all she could say?" He thought.

'Hn. Mada mada dane.' Ryoma said.

After practice

"I can't believe he didn't tell me in person, instead I had to hear from Horio-kun. I know he's Ryoma-kun's friend and all, but still, I'm his girlfriend for heaven's sake!' Sakuno thought walking towards the school gates surprised to see none other than Ryoma Echizen.

'Ryoma-kun…' Sakuno said.

'Thought I'd walk you home.' He responded.

The walk was silent and uncomfortable, until Sakuno broke the silence by asking,

'Why didn't you tell me that you were going to America, in person?!' anger growing in her voice.

'I was going to, but Horio beat me to it.' Ryoma answered.

'That's all?! I was hurt you didn't tell me because, because…,' Sakuno started but was cut off, when Ryoma embraced her saying,

'I'm sorry for making you angry, Sakuno. Keep in mind, I will always love you.'

After that he pulled her into a gentle kiss.

When they arrived at Sakuno's doorstep, he asked:

'You're coming to say goodbye tomorrow, right?'

'Yes, I am.' She answered.

Before Ryoma went, he gave her a peck on the cheek and left.

At the airport

All the Seigaku regulars and Coach Ryuzaki was there to see him off.

"But where is Sakuno-chan?" Ryoma asked himself.

At Sakuno's house

'Ah!! I'm going to be late if I don't hurry.' Sakuno cried, glancing at her clock.

"I can't believe I overslept!" Sakuno thought running to the airport.

At the airport

'All passengers going to America, your flight will leave in about fifteen minutes.' The voice on the intercom announced.

'Well, take care of yourself, Ryoma.' Coach Ryuzaki said.

'Be on your guard at all times, Echizen.' The captain stated.

'Don't get hurt, Ryoma.' Oishi warned.

'Good luck, Ryoma.' Fuji said with a smiling face.

'Take care of yourself 100, Echizen.' Inui said writing in his book.

'Fshh! Take care…' Kaidoh hissed.

'Be careful! BURNING!!!' Taka screamed holding a racquet.

'Take care, Ochibi! Nya!' Eiji exclaimed.

'Good luck, Echizen!' Momo said happily.

'Hai, senpai-tachi!' Ryoma responded.

After saying that they all left waving. As he turned around he saw Sakuno running to him.

'You're not going to leave without saying goodbye, were you?' she asked, panting heavily.

He pulled her into a passionate kiss. A few seconds passed and they pulled apart.

'Promise you will come back?' Sakuno questioned.

'I promise.' Was his final answer before leaving.
