(A/N): I haven't been seeing a lot of Sasaki x Reader Fanfics, so I decided to make something up myself, because who can't resist a cutie like Haise! \( ^ ^ )/ Hope you like it! In this story, you are a 20-year-old third rank investigator with a tough background. You recently had your quinque implanted in you as you were compatible with all the qualifications. So, this is a story about how you join the Quinx and develop your relationship with your mentor, Haise Sasaki... Enjoy!
It was a Sunday morning, and the streets were booming with people again, just like every other day. I put on my coat and took in the fragrant air coming from my favorite coffee shop nearby. "Oliviera". Heard the owner named it after his first love and that his current wife's pretty salty about it. I was a nervous ball of energy at the moment. Tomorrow was a big day for me! The day I become part of the Quinx - a group of CCG investigators who have inbuilt 'quinques' inside them. To think that I would be compatible to become one! Unbelievable! I remember our instructor saying that our new mentor would be a 'Haise Sasaki', but oddly enough, we didn't even get to see him that day. I wonder what he's like...? Sharp and strict? Stoic and strong, like Kishou Arima? I'd have to wait till tomorrow to find out.
I paced around the street and paused in front of the coffee shop to take in the scent. Flavored aroma almost carrying the bitterness of their coffee was swept by the air surrounding the building. I scurried into the warm shop to get away from the cold. A tanned, silver-haired barista immediately noticed me. Ishi Notaro. He's a high school student working part-time here and a full-time friend of mine. I remembered that time when he first told me he was going to dye his hair silver, and I looked at him like he grew a second head. Little did I know it actually ended up suiting him. "Hey, (Y/N)! The usual, I suppose?" I glanced up at him and smiled as I settled into the booth I always sat in, my favorite booth. All the confessions, breakups, hangouts, late night coffee cravings, procrastinated assignments, and everything in between - they all happened in this booth. "Yeah, Ishi!" I took out today's newspaper as he went to make my favorite chocolate-glazed cappuccino.
Today was just like any other day...well at least that's what I thought it was going to be like. The entrance bell rang as a seemingly unique person entered the cafe. He was of average height, more or less attractive, had good build, but the thing that piqued my interest the most was his hair. He had whitish - grayish streaks of hair, and yet his face looked extremely young...? I mean, he could have been my age for all I knew. His roots were black and the rest of his hair was snow-white. Although it's probably just dyed, it seemed so...natural? He must gather a lot of attention!
He walked inside and gave a smile to Ishi before he sat at the table adjacent to mine. He donned a long, white coat and wore a classic button-up tucked in black slacks. Is he also part of the CCG? He glanced at me and smiled with a blush tinging his cheeks. I smiled back and thought nothing of him as I started reading the newspaper I had in hand. It was the usual - infamous ghouls roaming throughout the wards and CCG's investigations...and Arima Kishou. I smiled at the thought of becoming as strong as my inspiration. He's the only CCG investigator who could stand up against The One-Eyed Owl. I drifted off into my thoughts and didn't even notice that someone came and sat in front of me. "Umm...Ahem..." I snapped out of my daze and focused on what was in front of me, startled by the sudden appearance of the person sitting across from me. It was the same gray-haired CCG guy!
"Hi, my name's Haise, uh...May I know your name?" he said, offering a hand. I furrowed my brows. His name is familiar. Come to think of it, that's my to-be mentor's name. Is 'Haise' really a common name? Or maybe, this is him in the flesh. I mean...he does look like he's part of the CCG… Err, what do I do? He doesn't seem to know who I am. "Uhhh...It's (Y/N). Nice to meet you," I said shyly while accepting his hand. "Oh! (Y/N)? What a pretty name! I'm sorry if I alarmed you, but I just had to come and talk to you. You're really cute!" he said with a comical laugh. I had a puzzled look on my face... Ishi came at that time with my cappuccino and his coffee. He placed the coffee and a saucer of sugar beside it but Sasaki-san refused the sugar and said, "Hold the sugar, please, she's sweet enough for both of us." He glanced at my face when he said that. My face was growing red in embarrassment. Ishi just chuckled and returned back to his station. Was he...h-hitting on me?!
"You know, I've been wondering ever since I entered this shop...Are you an interior decorator? Because, when I saw you, the entire room became beautiful." he looked at me with dreamy eyes. I couldn't resist grinning at how silly this seemed. "I'm new around this neighbourhood. Do you have a map? I'm getting lost in your eyes." I averted my gaze trying not to laugh at him at him too much. He was trying, alright, trying a little too hard. He took up a menu in his hands, crossed his legs, and said, "Hmmm...What's on the menu? That's right, Me-n-U," he smirked. His expression screamed 'Does that do anything for you?' I had to hold up my hands to my face to hide how embarrassing this was. His eyebrows perked up. "Ah! Your hands must be heavy...Here, let me hold them for you," he chuckled as he took my hands in his.
This was...too much. There's no way he could be your mentor after this. "Do you wanna feel my coat?" he said as he motioned my hands to his coat. "It's 'boyfriend' material..." Haise said with raised eyebrows and a flirty smirk. I sighed. "Hmm, your jokes have so much flavour. They're just so corny and cheesy." I can't believe I'm actually going along with this dork. I liked his jokes, but, just...why? He's so damn embarrassing. "Heh heh, just one last one then...You see, I've forgotten my phone number...so, can I have yours?" he said with that stupid optimistic grin again. I looked around and noticed the complete fiasco Haise was making as people began to stare. How is he not affected by this? I opened my mouth, but suddenly he got flustered after looking at his watch. "Oh my god, look at the time! I'm so sorry!" He jumped up from his seat, paused, wrote something on a paper napkin, bowed and gently placed the napkin on the table before scurrying off out of embarrassment.
I looked at the napkin and read what was written, giggling at the way he acted before leaving.
I've been thinking about you a latte, and I really want to espresso my feelings over a coffee someday! You're kinda, sorta, basically, pretty much REALLY cute! Here are my digits and in case you were wondering: My coat isn't the only thing I have that's long! So, call me maybe?

I smiled to myself. What a creep. I sighed and hoped he wasn't the same Haise as my mentor. "(Y/N)? Please don't tell me you're interested..." Ishi groaned. "Trust me, I'm definitely not."
I got home and thought a long time about everything...Tomorrow, I will be moving to a chateau along with the other Quinx - Saiko and the others. According to Mado, we will be staying in an old chateau together as a squad and doing missions alongside Haise, our mentor.
:::
Errr...Should I call him? I mean, he went out of his way to perform a pun parade, and he gave me his number, also. No! He's like the most embarrassing person I've met...Besides, I shouldn't lose track of my goal. I looked down remembering memories that were best left untouched.
..Mom...Dad...I will avenge you...

The next morning, I had gathered my stuff and reached CCG via cab. I gave the cabbie the meter payment and shot out of the cab as soon as she stopped at the entrance of the building. I threw on my coat and quickly rushed into the meeting room. I was late! I got in and gave a huge apology for being late. I looked around but only saw Shirazu, Mutsuki, and Urie standing in the room looking puzzled at my sudden entry. I guess I didn't come that late...? "Errr...Mutsuki, did our mentor come yet?" I asked, scratching my face uncomfortably. He shook his head. I gave out a large sigh, only to be startled as the door suddenly opened right behind me. Mado and our mentor entered the room. My eyes widened. This can't be happening. Mado took out a book and started calling out our names and we responded by stepping forward.
"Ginshi Shirazu." "Tooru Mutsuki." "(Y/N)." I stepped forward. Our mentor's ear perked up after hearing my name. He looked around to get a good look at me. I immediately averted my gaze and focused my sight on Mado. He gasped and covered his mouth, surprised and red-faced. "Is there something wrong, Sasaki?" Mado asked in response to his reaction. He responded by whispering something in her ear causing her to let out a chuckle. Why did our mentor have to be the same pun-obsessed dork from yesterday at the coffee shop? I don't know how he's going to live down this embarrassment.
