Every day at 5:30, Connor McKinley looks at his mail. He never gets anything interesting, so he doesn't pay much attention.
Until he notices an envelope with a return address with the name "Kevin Price." He grabs the letter opener eagerly. He hasn't heard from Kevin in ten years, when they were in Uganda together. It's like Kevin wanted to forget he existed, even with everything they'd done together. Connor never could figure out why that was.
But when he opens the envelope, he gets his answer.
It's a wedding invitation. He can't even read all of it—the only part his brain is able to comprehend are the words "Kevin Price," "Marriage," and the name of someone woman he's never heard of.
Maybe he should be happy for his friend—he'll get to have a nice life with a nice wife and lots of nice Mormon children. A normal life, something Connor will never know.
But all he feels is resentment. Kevin hadn't talked to him for ten years, and then just sends him a wedding invitation? He can just imagine Kevin putting the invitation in the mail box, thinking Haha, I was able to turn it off and get my life back on track, something this guy'll never be able to do! I'm going to rub it in his face!
Connor thinks about Kevin every day, but always pictured his life closer to Connor's own—trying to deal with who he was, thinking about the nights in Uganda, always remembering their relationship.
Turns out he couldn't have been farther from the truth. Kevin's forgotten him, and it's time for Connor to do the same.
He dumps the entire envelope into the trash and goes to eat all the chocolate in the house.
He'll never know that sitting in the envelope is a note from Kevin.
Dear Connor,
I'm so sorry about this. I need you to come to the wedding so we can talk things over.
Love,
Kevin.
PS: I think about you every day.
