Remus Lupin
I despise the moon. I despise everything that has any connection with the night. I have always been the quiet boy sitting by himself in the shadows.
It's not fair.
I brush my too-long dirty blonde hair out of my face as I stare at my reflection in the water. A white streak of hair falls into my face once again, reminding me of all of my stress. The boy I see has blood-shot eyes with heavy bags underneath them, white hair, a scar on his cheek from a fight, and a sad expression.
It's not fair.
The stars shine like silver teeth, grinning at me in the sky. The crescent moon glares at me like a yellow eye, watching my every move. Everything around me seems to mock me. I reach into my mouth and feel my canine teeth.
It's not fair.
I never really had any friends because I didn't want them to know about my "problem." Ever since I came to Hogwarts, that's been different.
It was the first day of Hogwarts, and I was nervous. My parents took me to the train station and left, slowly disappearing in the distance. I sighed and grabbed my bags. Well, actually I tried to. Since I was a small and weak boy I struggled to hold them, but I was too weak since I had undergone the change a day before. Suddenly, a boy grabbed my bag and held it easily with his arm. Slowly, I looked up to see a boy with kinda long raven hair and a big smile on his face.
"Looked like you needed help there, I'm Sirius, Sirius Black," the boy extended a hand and cautiously I grabbed it. The boy almost ripped my arm off shaking it, and I withdrew and held onto my arm, soothing it.
"Sorry 'bout that. So, what's your name?" asked Sirius.
"Remus Lupin," I said.
"Remus? Cool," said Sirius. "Going to Hogwarts?"
"Yes," I answered automatically.
"What year?"
"First."
"Same here! C'mon, let's find a seat on the train. I'll help you with that," Sirius grabbed another one of my bags and headed for the train. I smiled and quickly followed him.
Kids of all ages were on the train, running around and shaking hands and making new friends. I smiled from the thought of having Sirius as a friend.
Sirius Black led me to an empty compartment and plopped down.
"Crowded, eh?" I shook my head and put my bag under my chair. Suddenly, a boy with glasses and messy black hair walked into our compartment and flashed Sirius a smile.
"Sirius! I was looking for you!" cried the boy with glasses as he gave Sirius a slap on the back.
"Sorry, man. I met someone on the way. His name is Remus Lupin," Sirius pointed to me and I suddenly felt nervous. The boy with glasses walked up to me and stuck out his hand.
"Hi, I'm James, James Potter," I took his hand and smiled, bearing my unusually sharp teeth.
"Remus. Nice to meet you," I said politely. James threw his bag under the chair and sat next to me.
"Are you a first year too?" James asked.
"Yes," I answered. Suddenly, his deep blue eyes flickered to my hair.
"Cool hair, I like the highlight," said James.
"Um, thanks," I said.
"Man I hope I get into Griff," said Sirius, his hands behind his head.
"Me too," said James. "What about you?"
"Well, I guess Griffindor," I said.
"That's the spirit!" shouted Sirius, slapping me on the leg. I smiled and enjoyed the rest of the ride with James and Sirius. They never asked about my teeth or my blood-shot eyes or the bags under them or even my hair. They talked to me like old friends, and soon I was acting exactly like them, joking and slapping them on the back.
It turns out that all of us were sorted into "Griff" and we raced to our dorm and joked around for the rest of the night.
It was the next day we became friends with a fat nervous boy named Peter, and we have been inseparable since.
I smile and look back at the moon. It no longer mocks me. It then hid behind a fluffy cloud and out of sight. I have friends. I'm getting good grades. I'm happy. I won't let my other side destroy my normal one.
Not today.
