Divine Decree
She sighed, fiddling with the kunai in her hands. She waited anxiously for her teammate and sensei, throwing each kunai with precise accuracy into a nearby tree to fill her time. The boy sitting next to her meditated patiently, his eyes following each kunai's movement as it lodged itself into the tree with a careful clunk. He watched the casual flick of her wrist, as her long slender fingers left the steel weapon, knowing they would hit her target confidently. His lavender eyes followed her lean arm as she pulled out yet another blade, throwing it again, her movements repetitive with a hint of spontaneity and surprise.
They had met long ago in their academy days, when she had never been intentionally close to him unlike most of the other girls in their class; he had used his top-ranked stealth skills to be close enough to her to learn her name, her likes and dislikes, her hobbies, and her fighting style.
He had fallen in love with her some time between their innocent academy days and those days that kept him awake at nights, fearing his improper thoughts and lustful fantasies.
He refused to show her any of his inner thoughts, she would not accept them. He could not break the friendship that took long to establish, the trust she kept personally for him.
"Why the hell aren't they here yet!" her impatience drove her over the edge, cutting through the silence with her high voice, as she angrily stood up, pacing. "Damn it!"
He reveled in the fact that he could beat her in patience, that he could hold his emotions longer and harder than she could. Except for that time at the Chunnin exams, his interior thoughts were never revealed in his exterior composure. He watched her move to and fro in front of him; he could feel the energy pouring out from within her.
"Shall we spar now?" he questioned calmly.
She stopped, as he could feel her eyes on him. He closed his own, breathing calmly to soothe his inner thoughts.
"Yeah."
She was the only one that ever got too close to him, that could potentially harm him, either in battle or in life. She fought mid-range, but helped him perfect his Gentle-fist by allowing herself to get close, to fight in hand-to-hand combat. Her body dodged each attack, not fast enough to dodge every one, but enough to make him analyze each movement. He could not attack her important tenkutsu despite her constant urging. Her reasoning was he would forget about them in battle, and the enemy could, on slight chance, win. When he finally closed most of her tenkutsu, she slumped against him unable to move, luckily not seeing the slight pinkish tinge on his usually pale face. Slowly, he helped her to a nearby tree and opened her chakra flow carefully, making sure he did not damage any. She smiled up at him, praising his accuracy and he felt his heart flutter as he gazed into her sparkling eyes.
He could change some courses of his fate, as Naruto had once beaten into him.
He could not alter, no matter how hard he tried; the divine decree that bound him to Tenten.
