Nina was just sitting in her room reading Great Expectations for English when she got the phone call.

"Nina, you have a phone call." Amber said as she walked in the room.

Nina put her book on her bed and went downstairs to the phone near the staircase.

"Hello?"

"Yes, is this Nina Martin, Carolynn Martin's granddaughter?"

"Yes."

"This is Dr. Johnson. Her doctor."

"Is something wrong with her?" Nina asked. Her head became swamped with thoughts of Gran in danger.

"Well, I'm sorry to say this, but your grandmother had a cardiac arrest. We did the best we could, but we were too late. She's dead."

She hung up the phone. All she could think was Oh My God. Oh My God. OH. MY. GOD.

As Amber was walking down the steps with her copy of Great Expectations in her arm, she saw Nina kneeling, with wide eyes.

"Nina. Nina? Are you okay? Nina!" She shook Nina as hard as she could to snap her out of her trance.

"Oh my God. . ." Was all Nina said.

"What happened?"

"She's gone."

"Who?"

"Gran. Oh my God." Nina burst to tears. Amber was hugging her tightly for reassurance that everything's okay.

"It's alright Nina. I know you can make it though this."

_One Week Later_

"Guys, I think she's in a depression."

"Alfie, you're an idiot."

Everyone-except Nina, who was in her room, and Victor, who didn't really care-, was in the common room discussing Nina's little dilemma.

"Well, wouldn't you be depressed if your grandma died?" Fabian told them.

"I guess so. . ." Alfie said, looking down. Truth was, he didn't. He just didn't get it.

"Somebody's got to go and get her out of it. It's getting really annoying how she's always moping around." Patricia said. Everyone looked at Fabian.

"What?"

"Come on, we all know you guys get along better than anyone here. And I know you're always sweet to her." Patricia slapped her hand over her mouth. Oops.

Fabian's face blushed. "You know what? Fine. I'll go. If it doesn't work, we're definitely getting a chiropractor."

Fabian went up the steps to Nina's door. Here goes.

"Nina, are you okay?" All he heard in response was a sniffle. He went over to Nina with her face in her hands. He sat next to her, placing her head on his shoulder.

Nina blew her nose in a tissue. "I thought that after my parents died, I'd handle this better. I guess not."

"You know you're not the only one who loses their grandma."

"Well, we were close. She raised me practically my whole life. I didn't even get to say 'I love you'. You want to know what the last thing I told her was?"

"What was it?"

"'You should get the original. The spicy goes right through you.'"

He laughed. "What?"

"She was at Church's Chicken and she was asking if she should get the original or spicy." Nina blushed.

"What? No biscuits?"

"Don't make fun of Church's. And their biscuits are the best." Nina sat up and looked at Fabian in the eye. "This is the first time I've felt happy since I got that phone call."

"It's been a week. We figured you'd need a big cheering up."

They hugged. "Thanks for making my day."

"Nina, Fabian, I found-" Amber almost said when she walked on Nina and Fabian kissing. I thought Fabian was supposed to cheer- Oh. I get it. Amber thought.

Behind them, Alfie had snapped a picture of the two. The flash startled them.

"Aww, isn't it a perfect Kodak moment?" He said, running down the hall.

"ALFIE!" They both exclaimed, faces red.
