Summary: Get up and get the job done.
Trisha Elric had been the kind of woman to hold back tears and go on with her every day life until it was night and she cried as she tried to fall asleep. She felt pain at Hohenheim's departure but for the sake of her son's she could put up a strong face and keep going. They had to see that they could still rely on her and that she could still protect them from everything. Hohenheim had left to save them along with the entire country and she wanted them to see the day their father returned, victorious and as the hero he truly was.
She saw the growing hatred in Edward's actions and sometimes, she wanted to explain that there had been no other way and that his father had not wanted to leave but no matter how smart he was, her son was still too young to understand all of this – and she would not place another burden upon his shoulders even though he seemed to have a growing obsession with taking care of everyone and everything.
But she remembered the promise she had made and come hell or high water, she would keep it. She would wait for him to come back. She would live from the memories until he was home again. And she would keep functioning as a mother, she would keep smiling.
This was her way and this was everything she could do. She had no other ways of doing something for the sake of her family. She could not fix the hole Hohenheim had left in Edward's heart because this was not her doing and she only could fix what she had caused.
Sometimes, she could barely breathe because the weight on her chest was too heavy. She missed Hohenheim and to watch her sons grow and become more and more like him – Edward in terms of looks and Alphonse in terms of personality and kindness – added to her ever-growing pain.
But no matter what, she knew the only thing she could do was not to take it too hard and to keep going even though the hole inside her own heart ached more and more with every passing day.
