Fin sighed as he answered his phone. "Yeah Ken?"
"Hey, dad, I was wondering if you'd like to come over this weekend and have dinner with me and a guy I'm with?" Fin wondered if he'd strayed into an alternate universe.
"You actually want to talk to me?"
"Yes?" It sounded closer to a question. Fin chuckled to himself.
"Okay," He agreed. They set up a time and date and then hung up.
The rest of the week passed quickly; the team was involved in a lot of difficult cases, which made the time go faster.
Finally it was time. Fin knocked on the door and smiled as Ken greeted him. He hugged his son tightly.
"How you doing?" He asked. Ken smiled.
"Great. Come in." He stepped back and let Fin in. He walked into the living room and blinked in confusion.
His son was dating... George Huang.
"Doc?" He asked incredulously. George smiled.
"Yeah. We met after during the Hingham case and really hit it off from there," George explained.
"But you're 20 years older than he is!" Fin exclaimed. George shrugged.
"Men date women with a much greater age difference."
"We're co-workers!" Fin protested.
"I'm with Ken, not you," George argued reasonably. Fin rubbed the back of his neck, trying to understand.
"So... my gay son is with a guy 20 years older than him that I've been working with for 10 years," He mumbled.
"That's about it," Ken agreed. He grasped George's hand gently.
The evening didn't go as bad as it could have; Ken and George at least didn't do much more than hand-holding in front of him. He was still slightly creeped out, however.
He walked in the squad room the next day and immediately walked over to get some coffee. Olivia greeted him and handed him a fresh cup.
"You look like you could use this," Olivia explained. Fin nodded enthusiastically.
"I do."
"What's going on?" Olivia asked. Fin sighed.
"Ken's new date." Olivia's eyebrows rose.
"Is he with the wrong crowd?" She asked.
Fin shook his head. "The guy's awesome, really. It's just that I... know him," He explained vaguely, trying to spare George's privacy. However, the point was made moot by Olivia.
"He's with Huang, isn't he?" Olivia asked. Fin's silence served as affirmation. Olivia smiled slightly. "That's nice."
"And awkward," Fin added. He shook his head, trying to make sense of it all.
