Disclaimer: Yeah, I don't own any of these characters! Honestly!

This is a fic describing Squall's and Rinoa's feelings at the end of the game.

Her face had an almost ethereal glow in the pale phosphorescence of the moonlight. For an ephemeral second the veiled shroud of pearls lifted from her hair, and the black strands shone with a soft, pulsating radiance of their own.

The smooth, silky fabric of her blue train ruffled in the slight breeze, flowing out behind her. She looked like a bride, he thought, that hint of a smile always persevering at the corners of her mouth, even when she was scared or upset. Her limpid brown eyes were crinkled slightly against the breeze. Her beautiful eyes, the thing he had missed most about her when she was in a coma. He had to tell her at some point. He couldn't risk losing her again -

A star came loose from the domed heavens, and hurtled towards earth, leaving an effervescent, white-hot trail behind it. Squall took in his breath sharply at the sight of it. Rinoa heard the slight movement and turned around, her hair catching the light of the falling star. That slow, gentle smile slid across her face, and she lifted a finger to gesture at the shooting star. Memories exploded across his brain. He had held her close. The first time they had seen a shooting star - fireworks had burst overhead, and she had been in his arms. She should be in them now. The simple movement of her finger to point at the inky sky needed no supporting words.

Rinoa moved involuntarily towards Squall. He had changed so much; no longer the introverted lone wolf she had once known. His beautiful, iridescent blue-green eyes were fixed on hers. It was as if he could see into her soul. She could spend forever just gazing into those eyes. All that time she could have been with him, and silly arguments had gotten in the way. All the wasted time -

It was ridiculous, but even now the tears spilled out of her eyes, at all she had lost, and all she was going to gain. Tears of regret and tears of happiness and bliss. Squall would understand. He would always understand.

"Just stay close to me".

Rinoa looked up, the tears glistening on her glowing cheeks. Squall lifted his finger and brushed the tears away. Nervously, he smiled. It was a wonderful thing to see. His eyes lit up, and his mouth blossomed into the most beautiful, meaningful smile she had ever seen. His hands found her waist, and he pulled her towards him. The change was so gradual that it was like melting, but suddenly he was taking her tears with his lips. She buried her hands in his soft, shining hair and her lips lingered on his. The touch was electric, and the initial shock gave way to waves of mounting bliss. They were together; their future was sealed.

Afterwards, he held her against him and they watched the stars twinkle down on them.

"We've seen shooting stars" he whispered into her ear.

"We deserved it", she breathed, and nestled close in his arms.
