Ragnarok Moments

Moment 1: The Hug

"I might give you a hug if you were actually here," Thor said, casually tossing the decanter's stopper at Loki.

Loki caught it. "I'm here."

Thor held his brother's gaze. The future was a great unknown. Asgard the place was no more. Asgard the people survived, but mother, father, and closest friends were lost. Except for Loki. Right there, flesh and blood. No tricks.

He smiled.

No tricks for now. Loki was the god of mischief, and Thor knew that would never change, just as he'd told Loki. Tomorrow, perhaps, some mad scheme would beguile his brother and he would disappear. But right now…"I'm here." And he was still there.

He approached, and Loki stayed exactly where he was, exactly as he was.

Thor's arms went up first, wrapping around Loki's arm and over his shoulder.

Loki was warm. Alive.

Not like the last time he'd held his brother.

Thor felt movement and squeezed a little tighter, but Loki wasn't trying to pull away. His arms came up, too, and wrapped around Thor, the decanter's stopper clattering to the floor. He could even feel it when the fists spread out into fingers and dug into his back.

Of the house of Odin, it was just them now. No mother, no father, a sister lost long before she was known. No home.

"I'm glad," Thor said, and squeezed tighter. He heard Loki's breathing falter, shuddering a bit.

Thor's cheek was damp. He wasn't crying. Loki's tears had always come more easily.

Loki's chest noticeably expanded. And then his arms were pulling away. Loki was pulling away.

Loki was shrinking. And moving. Reforming. Slithering across his chest and up and over his shoulder. Wrapping around his neck.

"Ah!" Thor cried, jerking his neck away from the green-and-black striped creature. He grabbed at it and threw it to the ground. His neck stung; he reached up a hand to touch the area and found it stained with blood.

Loki rose nimbly from the ground. "I thought you liked snakes," he said with a smirk.

"God of mischief," Thor said, begrudging smile playing at his lips.

Loki nodded as though deeply considering the moniker. The smirk smoothed into a smile to match Thor's. "And more."

I'm sure lots of people feel compelled to write The Hug scene. I hope you enjoyed this version. This is all from Thor's POV, which wasn't intentional actually, but it seemed to flow that way. If you have questions about Loki's perspective, ask and I'll tell you what I intended. Hoping to put up some blog posts on various aspects of Thor: Ragnarok, but in the meantime, something had to come out and this was short.

If I add chapters (I have one more in mind at the moment), bear in mind they aren't meant to be chronological. This is a collection of individual scenes.
