Disclaimer: No matter how many times I ask for it for Christmas, Castle still isn't mine.

The Wedding Party

Part 2: Last Names

"Castle. We need to talk." Kate said, bursting through the doors of her fiancé's study.

"Yeah. Gimme one minute Kate. I'm kina in the middle of something." He muttered; his eyes never leaving his laptop that was perched on his lap.

"No. Now Rick." She glared at him with one of her interrogation glares, hoping that it would work.

It did. "Okay Kate, what do you need?" he looked up at her. "Hey, are you okay? You look pretty worked up." His full attention was now on the woman standing in front of him.

"I've been doing a lot of thinking." She started pacing the room back and forth.

"Okay…" he replied, unsure of where the conversation was going.

"And I've made a decision. I know that we haven't talked about it yet, so I took it upon myself to think about it."

"Kate. You're starting to scare me." Castle stood up, grabbed both of Kate's arms to stop the pacing, and led her to the love seat on the opposite side of the room.

Once they were seated, Kate spoke. "Rick," she said, "I want to keep my last name. I still want to be 'Kate Beckett'."

Castle's face fell. 'Oh.' He thought. Pretending to be okay with his heartbreak, he looked Beckett in the eyes and said "Okay. That's fine with me."

"But wait. You didn't let me finish. I want to be Kate Beckett at work. Everywhere else, I want to be Kate Castle. And I know that we never talked about it, but that's what I want. That is, if you're okay with it." She was suddenly second-guessing herself, wondering if this was the best way of bringing her point across.

"Are you serious? Kate! I would love that! It would make me so happy to have the honour of calling you Mrs. Castle." Immediately after Kate's news, Rick's face lit up, any reminisce of a broken heart completely gone.

Kate grabbed Rick's face and pulled him in for a passionate kiss. "Good." She said.

"What do you say we move this party next door?" Castle wiggled his eyebrows suggestively.

"I thought that you were in the middle of something." She eyed him suspiciously.

"It can wait." He murmured as he picked Kate up into his arms and carried her into the adjoining bedroom.

Soon, the only ting heard throughout the loft was Beckett's first name and her new last name.
