A/N: just short one-shot for this. Haven't read the books since like February so don't criticize if something's wrong…

Blinded

The flamebringer looked up at the sky to see some darklings fluttering above the group. Jessica flipped on her flashlight right into Jonathan's eyes. He cringed away from the glowing beam and ducked back into the shadows of the blue time. "Seriously? Can't you watch where you're pointing that thing?" he asked, trying to keep the gruff tone from his voice. He didn't want to sound harsh, but it just came off like that sometimes.

"Sorry," she said, turning it so that it faced away from her boyfriend, face heating up with embarrassment. "My bad."

Melissa was now caught in the beam. She ducked, exposing Rex to it for mere moments where he twitched like a deer in headlights in the glow before he could dodge the flashlight's irritating radiance.

Dess's eyes widened, knowing she was the only one to have been spared. And she liked being spared. "Jess, watch that thing or we're all gonna end up blinded."

Rex rubbed his eyes, waiting for the blue time's waning ocean-colored light to repair his now slightly impaired vision. One of his eyes was still twitching like a squirrel with caffeine. "That thing's dangerous in normal time, let alone in our midnight."

Jessica turned, the light narrowly missing Dess by a few centimeters as the polymath barely had a chance to duck from the oncoming onslaught of bright white light.

"Jessica Day..." snarled Melissa, also nearly being struck with the violent light but was barely surviving with the avoidance and her eyes had come back from the one moment of being blinded. "I've wanted to kill you before, but now we're getting a bit to the extreme..."

"Melissa," began Rex as he felt the mindcaster heating up.

Jessica flipped off the flashlight and held up her hands as if trying to prove her innocence, almost like holding up the white flag in the middle of a war zone. "There. It's off. Better?"

A quick shake of his head and Jonathan took the flashlight from her and stuck it in the pocket of his jacket. "No more fancy lighty uppy things for you," said Jonathan. "Deal?"

With a crestfallen face and a depressed sigh, Jessica stuck her hands in her pockets and began to shuffle in the direction of the rest of the group as the five of them began their midnight journey to Angie's house once more.

Melissa looked up at the sky and threw her hands out in exasperation. "You give us a flamebringer and she brings us blindness. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!"

A/N: just thought that this would be something funny. I have to say Melissa is fun to write… anyways, please review!
