Just For This Moment

They'd been traveling forever, or so it had seemed to the dark blonde young man. He sighed as he not quite gracefully plopped to the ground. He shrugged off the sword that was hanging on his shoulder and loosened the bags, setting everything aside so he could rest. That's when his shadow spoke.

"Hey! Why're we stopping?" he tilted his head toward the voice slightly as he smiled a little.

"Because, I'm tired and it's night. I need sleep Midna." His voice was soft in the still night, but clear and strong. He turned and looked at the speaker as she slid out of his shadow. A pout graced her imp features as she gave him a look could freeze blood. "What?"

"Wipe that smile off. We need to defeat Zant. The sooner we do, the sooner we can restore Zelda. So if you need sleep, then sleep!" he smiled a little more at her before shifting into a more comfortable position, leaning against a tree.

"You know Midna…….you're not so different from us. True you come from a different world, but still…..we're all the same." She looked at him.

"What are you talking about?" he leveled her with a penetrating gaze.

"I think you know. We feel, we hate, we love……"she blinked as he suddenly leaned closer to her. "You know what I mean?" she swallowed, very aware of how close he was leaning to her. She hesitantly reached out and lightly brushed his cheek with her fingers. His hand came up and took hold of hers. She smiled at him in a hesitant manner.

"I know……I know what you mean Link. But….." he shifted some, freeing some space for her to come and join him. "Why?"

"What do you mean?" she watched him tilt his head in the same questioning manner he usually does as a wolf. Damn him! He made it harder for her to think now.

"I mean…..why me? Just look at me! I'm an imp!" he shrugged.

"How you look doesn't matter. It's the you on the inside." She stared at him. She had never really thought about it before. Her eyes started tearing up. His eyes widened at this. "Whoa, what's wrong?" she shook her head as he embraced her, drying her tears.

"I don't know! It's just…..what you said, no one's ever……." She let herself calm down and looked up into his face. He was smiling once more. "Why?" He blinked.

"You're still asking that? You really haven't figured it out huh?" she gave him another look.

"Just answer the damn question!" he laughed at her anger.

"Very well then. Though I'm very surprised that you can't see how obvious it is." He sighed.

"How obvious what is?" He looked down at her before leaning down and kissing her full on the lips, as he pulled away, he whispered into her ear.

"How obvious it is that I love you." She gasped. Staring into his deep cerulean eyes, she had no doubt. She also had no doubt that she loved him back.

"So…..does this mean we have to live happily ever after?" he started laughing once more at her.

"Not if you don't want to." She smirked.

"Good, because I'm not that type of girl, and you seem the type trouble finds too often." She leaned up and pulled his face close to hers and kissed him back, the sun setting in the background. They snuggled together, happy in their new found knowledge and ready for whatever lay before them.
