Red Forman yawned and rolled over in his bed. The digital clock on his nightstand currently read 11:14 PM and he could hear noises coming from the hall. Red groaned and tried to fall back asleep-no luck. Being careful to not wake up his wife Kitty, Red stood up, left the room, and walked to the end of the hall. The door to his son Eric's room was open and Red peeked in, hoping to catch a glimpse of his three day old granddaughter Charlotte who had just come home from hospital. But as he looked closer into the room, he noticed Charlotte's bassinet was empty and be could barely make out the figure of Donna on the bed.

That's weird, Red thought to himself. He continued down the stairs to the living room to find that it, along with the den, was empty. Red entered the kitchen, also empty, and was about go back to his room when he heard the faint sound of singing coming from the basement.

"I've got sunshine on a cloudy day. When it's cold outside, I've got the month of May."

Red mumbled something under his breath about his son singing and then proceeded down the basement steps.

"I'd guess you'd say, what can make me feel this way? My girl, my girl..."

Red took another step and was able to see Eric sitting on the couch holding a small pink bundle in his arms-Charlotte. As Red reached the next step it creaked, causing him to catch his breath.

"D… Dad!" Eric's voice cracked as he quickly jumped up.

"Sit down." Red ordered, sitting next to Eric on the couch as he obeyed his command. "Why did you come down here?"

"Charlotte couldn't sleep and I didn't want to wake Donna up." Eric smiled down at his daughter and held her close to him. "I can't wait until she's able to smile," he told his dad. After a few minutes of silence, Eric asked, "You want to hold her?"

Red hesitated a bit. "No, it's fine."

This time Eric didn't listen to his father. "You go to Grandpa Red," Eric said handing the baby over.

"So, uh, when are you and Donna leaving for Madison?" Red asked, even though he knew the answer very well.

"On the first," Eric answered, a smile still on his face.

Red smoothed out Charlotte's red hair. "Her hair is just like Donna's used to be," Red examined, thinking back to Jackie's comment in the hospital.

"Yeah," Eric stifled a short laugh. He loved Donna's blonde hair, but there were times when he'd wish she had her old hair back. Sensing that his father was in a good mood, Eric took the moment to ask something that had been on his mind. "Dad, what would you say if I told you that Donna and I are engaged?"

Red smiled as he looked up. "I'd ask how long I'd have to wait until you got married."

Eric returned the smile. "May 22nd, our fifth anniversary."

"Just don't run away this time."

"This time I have a reason to stay." Eric held out his forefinger to Charlotte who grabbed it with her little fist.

"Eric, do you remember when Donna thought she was pregnant, but she wasn't?"

Eric groaned, put his hands over his face, and leaned back on the couch. "Don't remind me."

"All right. Do you remember how I said I wouldn't have minded a grandchild?"

"Yes," answered Eric.

"Well, I really meant it."

"Okay…. What did that have to do with anything?"

Red shot Eric a 'Don't be a dumbass look.' "I don't know, I just want you to understand that I really believe you and Donna are going to go far." Red handed Charlotte back to Eric and headed back up the stairs, but before he reached the top he turned around and said, "You did good, son."
