Chapter 1 - Pain

I laughed as I watched my mother trying to catch a grape in her mouth. Her blue eyes sparkled with mischief and carefreeness. She smiled at the sound of my tinkling laughter, but it was wrong, somehow. A strange expression crossed her face. It was as if. . . As if she had never heard me laugh. A feeling of dread coursed through my veins. "Maya!" a voice called in the distance. "MAYA!"

I bolted upright with a gasp, beads of terror sprinkling my forehead. Memories trickled through my brain like a river of tears. I glanced around, searching for the source of the call. I turned to a pair of warm brown eyes that were watching me sympathetically.

She already knew what was wrong. Of course she did. She always knew. She was practically my sister, after all. Her brown eyes were tired and sad, and they reflected my mood.

She said nothing, only opened her arms in an invitation. I buried myself in her shoulder, her hair, her warm aura as a sob escaped my lips. My angel held me, and a single tear fell out of my eye. Then another. And another. Splashes of misery raced down my cheeks.

"I'm okay, peaches," I said weakly, a feeble smile on my face. She only shook her head, saying nothing. Her expression was one of an old friend who knows that her friend is lying to her, but won't say anything, only hold them as they cried. I looked into my angel's eyes, and she looked at me as if her heart was breaking just watching me.

All right, guys that was my first chapter! Let me know if I should continue this story or not. PLEASE don't be a silent reader!
