A/N It's my first story, sorry if it's bad.
And Even Then
Wally sped into the mountain and straight to the fridge. He opened it and saw that his usual bag of chicken whizzees was gone.
"ROB!" He yelled, speeding into the living room, only to find his best friend chowing down on Wally's last bag of food. Wally huffed and sat next to Robin, and crossed his arms.
"Yeah?" Robin asked, turning to look at the speedster.
"They were my last bag!" Wally whined and pouted.
"Now they're gone." Robin laughed and threw the packet in the bin, causing Wally to pout.
"Oi, you two." Artemis yelled before walking over to the two boys with a bowl of popcorn. "It's my turn to choose the movie."
Wally inwardly groaned. He hates all the movies that Artemis chooses. "Fine. Which one?"
"This." Artemis pulls out the DVD of 'The Matrix'. Wally stifled a laugh. "What, Baywatch?"
"Nothing! I'll get the others and you put it in." Wally held back another laugh and walked out the room.
Upon gathering everyone, Artemis played the movie, only for it to start playing some weird music video with dancing cats. Wally couldn't hold his laugh anymore, so he laughed. Robin did too, seeing as he helped Wally mess up Artemis' DVD.
"Ugh, Baywatch!" Artemis groaned and Wally's laughter finally subsided.
"Sorry, Arty." Wally replied. Artemis took the DVD out and the TV cut to a news alert.
'Hi. I'm Missy Berry and I'm reporting a fatal crash that has just taken place. On an intersection in the Keystone highway, two cars collided head on, leaving the drivers of the Peugeot dead.'
Wally's head snapped up to look at the TV screen and everyone looked at him.
"Wally, you okay?" Artemis began, but Wally shushed her.
'Reports have just come in that the bodies are those of Rudolph and Mary West, parents of one.'
The room was silent. Everyone held their breath as they looked at their favourite speedster.
"Wallace, my friend. I am deeply sorry." Kaldur said sadly.
"It's cool. It's fine." Wally doesn't know why he said that. He knows it's not cool. It's not fine. Yet, he doesn't feel sad, but he doesn't feel happy. These were the people that raised him and the ones who hated him. They would constantly yell at him or throw things at him, and that's why he moved in with his aunt and uncle. The whole team knew.
"Fine?" SuperBoy raised an eyebrow.
"I mean, I guess. I dunno." Wally shrugged it off and flipped upside down on the couch.
"You're parents just died and it's fine?" M'Gann asked.
"I don't know! You guys know what they did. You know what happened to me. You know I hate them!" Wally turned back around and got up, staring at the team, anger boiling inside him, and he didn't know why. Tears threatened to fall. "You know how hard my life was back then! Yet I don't know how I feel about this! This has never happened to me before! I'm always the one trying to cheer you up when your lives are bad! Did any of you ever cheer me up when I escaped that hell? No! You babied me!" The tears fell. "When you finally came around, I wasn't alone anymore. And even then, I still felt scared. Even then, I felt like my life would never be the same."
Wally stopped and collapsed in a sobbing mess on the floor. Robin was the first to go over and comfort his friend. Followed by Artemis, SuperBoy, M'Gann and then Kaldur.
"It's not cool! It's not fine! They hurt me. They hurt me so bad." Wally just curled into a ball and continued to cry.
His parents were the most horrible people in the world to Wally. And even then…
He missed them so.
