She stared at the engraved words, carefully curled around the marble stone, covered in glittering droplets of rain, and barely grown vains circling the feet of the smooth stone.

"Neat, completely unlike his chicken scratch," Her mind briefly registered.

She couldn't breathe.

Her head felt like it was on the verge of splitting into two, an unflattering image, she'd have thought, if the circumstances had been different. Her mind threatened to shut down at any given moment, a vary of emotions running through her very bones at a chilling pace, before she could even vaguely comprehend them.

Thousands of memories ran through her mind, memories she couldn't even begin to grasp at.

Though her mind was buzzing, Lucy felt numb.

She couldn't breathe.

Her bloodied palms rubbed agressively at the already raw, dark bruised skin beneath her eyes, that had taken a deep, plum colour, staining them in the metalic liquid, as she desperately fought against the oncoming new wave of tears, her breathes harshening, lips pursed together at a bruising force.

She could feel her teeth clattering; grinding, chattering together, as she tried to contain her muted screams.

Lucy felt cold.

Not the coldness that came from spending a day out fishing with Natsu, and Happy one chilly night in August, when Happy would playfully splash the freezing water at her, as he vowed to find Charles the best fish of them all, or even the cold sensation that briefly washed over her whenever she gave Gray a hug, but a coldness that completely encased her. A coldness that held every fibre of her being hostage.

She could feel her body shaking desperately, whether a response for the yearning warmth it so desperately craved, or because of the silent sobs she was emitting, she didnt know.

All Lucy knew was that she couldn't breath. Her lungs burned with a desperate need for oxygen, aching for relief.

Lucy hadn't even registered the grassy meadows surrounding her, or the countless bouquets of flowers littering the ground before her, or the fact that she was getting soaked to the core in the heavy rain.

All Lucy knew was the searing white wave of pain that overcame her, as she hit the ground, as she knew no more.

And then she was numb.
