Friends – Words: 486

The two blondes sat outside at their usual lunch table, doing everything they could to not look at each other. They were similar in looks, yet different enough that they would never be confused for siblings. The blonde girl, Peyton Sawyer, had wild curly blonde hair that seemed impossible to tame at times. Her green eyes spoke of innocence yet danger at the same time. Her short blonde haired counterpart, Lucas Scott, had mesmerizing blue eyes that told the world all of his secrets. Anyone who sat between the two of them could feel the air sizzling with electricity, sexual tension and nervousness. Lucas was off limits; he belonged to Brooke Davis, Peyton's best friend, yet she couldn't help but want the broody blonde, for he was her other half. It wasn't until they realized that Brooke wouldn't be joining them for lunch that they shyly looked at each other.

"So, uh, how was your day so far?" Lucas loved the way her voice seemed to hesitate when speaking to him, it told him that she was as nervous about their situation as he was. He had never felt more attracted to a person as he was to Peyton Elizabeth Sawyer. Sure, he was physically attracted to Brooke, but with Peyton he wanted more than just her body. He wanted her body, mind and soul to belong to only him.

"It's been ok. Better now that I get to spend my lunch period with you." Peyton's eyes widened at his words. Lucas was seriously off limits, not just for the fact that he was Brooke's. He also happened to be the illegitimate brother of her ex boyfriend of only a few days, the dark brown haired basketball star Nathan Scott. She was flirting with danger, something Peyton usually took steps to avoid. For the first time in her life, Peyton was actually excited at the prospect of playing with danger. At least she was until the beautiful brown eyes of her best friend flashed before her eyes.

"Well that's very sweet of you to say Lucas. How many times have you used that line on Brooke?" She stuck her tongue out at him as she spoke, determined to make the tension between the two of them disappear. It shouldn't be there in the first place. Lucas raised his eyebrow at the blonde girl in front of him.

"Why are you so prickly sometimes Peyton?" He had been waiting to ask her that for as long as he could remember. She just laughed and shook her head, feeling for the first time that the tension had been broken.

"Because we're friends, that's why." She spoke in a riddle, but for now, Lucas would take it, glad that he was more than just 'that boy' to her. He would take being a friend, knowing that it wouldn't suffice for long, that he wanted more. But that could wait.
