A/N: This is my first Sky High story. Just a oneshot from Layla's point of view.

She often wondered whether she was cut out for this life.

A world in which every day, you could be called on to save your friend's life, or your parent's life, or your own life, a world in which there was always quite possibly a terrible super villain waiting just around the corner. After all, here she was, a girl who'd sworn never to use her powers unless it was absolutely necessary, in it. In this world. But not stuck.

She could really leave any time. Her powers weren't the standout sort, and she was in no way famous. She could just fade into the background now - go to a normal high school, find "normal" friends. No one would know who she was, and no one would say things about her like, "She will fall to me and then the world will be mine!"

After all, she was already a vegetarian. She certainly didn't want to kill any people.

It was all so surreal sometimes. Sure, she'd known since the age of around three that she had superpowers. Her parents had told her the minute they thought she'd understand. And for a very long while, she'd thought it was really cool. She was constantly helping her mom in the garden, and she kept her room full of plants. Even when she started at Sky High she'd figured it wasn't too bad. Even though she'd realized they were a serious thing - a responsibility, etc., she hadn't really realized what she was in for until Gwen.

Then, after she'd been attacked by creepy cheerleaders, watched her best friend fall out of window, and then unexpectedly come flying back, and fought a super villain, well, things kind of hit home.

And even though the good guys had won in the end, she didn't really know if she could call it winning. Sure, no one was dead. No lasting effects. But half the school had turned out to be evil, and quite clearly corruptible, and the other half had either been turned into babies or been forced to fight those people. She supposed you could call it being disillusioned. She didn't like it.

So she'd often considered whether or not she ought to just leave it all behind.

Her parents had talked with her about it. They'd offered her that way out. The option of just putting down the mask, and forgetting that she had powers except for when she wanted to plant some vegetables or something.

But then she'd really thought about it.

The people in this world were her friends, her parents, her teachers, and everybody important to her. And she knew she could never really leave it behind. She'd always wonder what they were doing, and occasionally she'd see them on Fox News or whatever and wonder if they'd be okay. And someday she'd be watching Will, or Zack, or Warren, or Magenta in a fight and she'd wind up grabbing a paper bag or something to stick over her head and rushing out the door to help them.

So maybe she didn't belong there entirely yet. So maybe it was something she'd have to work out. So maybe it was something she was going to have to do some thinking about. But for now, she knew she couldn't leave this world behind. This was her world, and if anybody messed with it, she'd have to mess with them.

Well great. She had the clichéd superhero slogan thing down pat.

A/N: So, please tell me what you thought:D
