A Ray of Bright Light-Lucien/Carmen

Disclaimer: I don't own Sandman. I own Carmen. Set post "Guilty Pleasures"

To Carmen Prolux, Saviour of the Silver City, Lucien is a bright light. Which is what induces Carmen to present Lucien with a sunflower as they walk outside the castle walls. Lucien is grumbling about leaving his precious library (he has books to shelve, after all), and he gives Carmen a look of confusion as they walk, leaves crunching beneath his black shoes and Carmen's bare feet.

"Why are you doing this, Carmen?" Lucien grumbles, not meaning to be rude to his dear Carmen.

"Because you need fresh air, mi novio. You can't stay cooped up in your library all the time, can you?" Carmen teases gently, reaching up to playfully flick at Lucien's nose.

"That is a perfectly debatable manner, Carmen-wait, what did you just call me?" Lucien sniffs, before opening his brown eyes wide in confusion. Raising an eyebrow, he turns his head left to peer down at Carmen, who has a faint tinge of red on her lightly tanned cheeks-and a giant sunflower in her hand.

Shifting nervously, Carmen meets Lucien's inquiring gaze, her gray eyes never leaving his brown ones as she replies "Mi novio. Como si dice en ingles 'my boyfriend'" before holding the sunflower out to Lucien. At this, Lucien turns slightly pink, before looking awkwardly at his shoes. He's unsure how to respond to that, he realizes, since he's never been offered a flower, much less been called "boyfriend" before.

Looking slightly confused, Lucien takes the sunflower, twirling it gently in his hands as he thinks of a proper response. Thinking of one, he smiles, and bows politely. "Thank you, my beloved" he says, looking at Carmen to see her reaction. Her smile fills Lucien with a kind of elation, and he decides that maybe getting out of his library every so often is not such a bad thing after all.
