"Your foolish crusade ends here, mortals. The legion comes, and with it, this world breaths its dying breath."
Beneath the night sky, wreathed in felfire and without a single visible star, Monitus watched as the world ended. The cold stones quivered at the demon's bellow. He ran across the courtyard, besieged by the sounds of war and slaughter. Ignore the screams. Stay calm. Keep moving. Archimonde, the Eredar lord of the Burning Legion, had returned, and with him, oblivion. Monitus glanced around. Few had, in this final hour, dared to stand against such an overwhelming adversary. Too many are dead—will this monster ever die? An explosion rocked the earth, as jagged crystals erupted from the earth beneath him, casting him far into the air. As he looked down, he foresaw his demise. Fire burned across the landscape. His allies—those who still drew breath—were scattered, surrounded by hordes of demonic hounds. Faster and faster he fell, murmuring an incantation. At the last second, incased in a protective shield of ice, he struck the broken earth. As his crystalline shield shattered, he stood—and froze. That abhorrent, twisted voice called forth.
"Enough. Your meaningless struggle ends now! I will shatter this pathetic world; its broken husk will be torn apart in the twisting nether for all time!"
The air crackled above, and Monitus sensed the heat of hellfire. He blinked to the side, teleporting as quickly as he could. A meteorite, gray stone wreathed in fel-green flames, crashed into the ground. The night sky, once peaceful and bright, glowed with a sickly demonic light. Were those clouds of flame? No…the sky itself is falling. He felt a sudden impact to his chest; ribs cracked, and he was thrown across the court, narrowly missing a pit of flames. Infernals…it had to be infernals. The demon stalked toward him, its enormous skeleton comprised of large, burning boulders. As he began to run, he heard a cry through the chaos. It's finally time, then. I've only got one shot at this. Dodging the infernal's outstretched arm, he screamed his greatest incantation, altering time for himself and his allies. And then, he tripped. He struggled to regain his footing, ultimately in vain. Will they win…can my friends defeat this monster? As the infernal approached him, Monitus surrendered to his fate. This world is, it seems, doomed to die in fire.
Archimonde roared in the distance. His inhuman, demonic screech resounded through the air.
The infernal loomed over Monitus. It smiled, eyes full of malice, then raised a single flaming fist over his body. Monitus closed his eyes. He felt an enormous shockwave as the earth shook beneath him.
And then, there was silence.
Monitus raised his head in disbelief. It…It's…It's not possible. Before him, the infernal's corpse lay crushed, its once-fiery eyes extinguished. Above it, Archimonde the Defiler, lord of the Burning Legion, lay, finally overwhelmed. Monitus struggled to his feet. The shouts, the screams of victory began to ring throughout the courtyard. He looked up.
The sky was bright and clear again.
