Summary: Between deployments and deaths, will Bella and Edward find their happy place together? When they find their love, will it survive the war they're surrounded by? Tissue warnings are given, but a happy ending is promised. All Human.

Chaplain's POV.

Lieutenant General Aro Volturi looks at his file again. It's almost as if he thinks if he keeps looking at it, it'll change what's clearly written there. With a heavy heart, he opens his car door. I silently get out and follow him.

Aro has served in the Army for forty years, and in his time, has given this news to too many families. This time, however, I believe it feels more personal to him. Maybe it's because it isn't just one, but two families at once that are affected. The families are joined together in marriage, and that makes it worse.

It could be bothering him so much because, one of the people in his file is—was—his dear friend. Someone he has seen grow and dedicate his life to his job as being an army doctor.

Then there is the young woman. We all know that she was doing a great job. She had lost her brother just over a year ago to the war. Her brother is the one who saved my own life over there.

When the news came in earlier, we talked about this together before coming here. We're both sure that the doctor had strong feelings for the woman, and that's why he chose to do another year. He was planning to retire, but after her deployment came through, he bartered to be deployed there too. Being a colonel does have some pull. But sadly, that meant both were sent off to Afghanistan, inside the very heart of the war.

When Aro reaches the front door, he can hear laughter coming from the backyard. He makes his way around. He takes his hat from his head and silently watches the two families smile and laugh as they sit around a large fire pit.

He closes his eyes for a few minutes and takes a calming breath. I place my hand on his shoulder in a show of support to him in this troubling time.

"Sir," a deep male voice says.

He opens his eyes and before us stands Sergeant Major Emmett Cullen. It only takes Emmett a few seconds to stand straight and salute Aro.

"At ease, Sergeant Major," Aro says, and I hear the waiver in his voice.

Emmett looks him straight in the eye, and Aro can see that he knows. I can see he's wondering which one we're here about. Little does he know, Aro's about to tell him not only has his older brother, Edward, gone missing and is presumed dead, but also his baby sister-in-law, Isabella, as well.

The usually quiet neighborhood is filled with screams and cries by a couple of women, during what should've have been a happy Thanksgiving.
