-Betrayal-
'Commitment.'
A meaningless word.
Something that was false right from the beginning.
"I was so wrong." Mahiru thought to herself as her tears mixed with frozen raindrops. Her feet splashed through the muddy puddles, carrying her as fast as possible. "I knew that the whole 'Princess' act couldn't be true. I knew they weren't really my friends...they never really cared."
Meaningless months of her time filled with lies and remorse...
"They told me that the humans stole the Teardrops first...and what's worse...I believed them."
The rain began to fall harder, as if to punish her for being so foolish. Tears kept their steady flow, blurring her vision and making it harder to breathe.
Thunder crashed above her, illuminating the heavens with an angry blue glow. Wet hair crashing against her skin felt like thousands of tiny pins cutting away at her flesh.
She was wet, cold, afraid,...but she couldn't quit running.
"This is so pointless." she said to herself after taking salvation under a tree. "I should have noticed sooner. I should have never left my aunt. I wish I could go back to her, but there's no way that can happen now. She and her new husband moved away a while ago...I don't even remember their new address..."
Pulling her knees to her chest, she rested her head against the trunk of the tree and closed her eyes. "I can't cry over this anymore. It's only making me feel worse." The wind picked up, combining with the rain to create a ghostly howl.
Mahiru understood now. The intentions of the Lunar Race were never to 'regain their life force' by using the Teardrops of the Moon. Instead, she was tricked into helping them take their revenge against the humans for treating them like monsters. In a way, she too was a monster. She had a feeling right from the beginning that something was wrong...but the attention they gave her, ...the way they treated her, ...like a princess, ...it was something she had never experienced before; thus she loved every second of it.
The trees bent with the swirling wind that was forming around her. Mahiru opened her eyes just in time to see Mitsuru's feet hit the ground. Horrified of what he might do to her for running away, she pressed her back against the tree and pleaded silently with her eyes.
"...Mahiru..." Mitsuru's voice was filled with concern, (or perhaps regret) "We've been looking everywhere for you."
Mahiru noticed that he was just as soaked as she was, and his breathing came in short gasps.
"I'm ...sorry. None of this was ever meant to hurt you."
Suddenly...she didn't feel as upset. There was something about the look that Mitsuru was giving her...something that made her feel almost...happy.
Mitsuru held out his hand to help her up. "Will you come home now?"
"Home." she thought. "...Yeah...lets go home."

AN: er...this would be one of my random 'spur-of-the-moment' stories. I apologize for the slight OOCness, but hey, it was at least semi-believable. (okay, maybe not. . ) Anyway, tell me what you thought (good, bad, random thoughts and or comments, whatever you want) in a review. (it would be greatly appreciated.)
I'll fix any errors as soon as I notice them.
Thanks for reading!!
