A/N: Well, Spring is FINALLY here. Of course, my day did not look like Spring came even though the trees got their leaves back. It has been a cold, dreary day for me. Hope your day wasn't like that. Fortunately, our Echancian friends get a sunny, warm day! Hope you enjoy this. Please read and review!

That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers. – Psalms 1:3

Promise of Springtime

A smile graced Sofia's face as she looked out the window and saw the bright sun shinning down on all of the freshly grown greenery, it's trees had grown new leaves, the flowers returned to their the land as well and the grass came alive again. Animals that had been in hibernation were starting to come out of their homes. It would seem Baileywick had been right when he said that the Spring season had finally returned.

It seemed like the perfect day to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather. The girl skipped down the hall towards the kitchen to find Chef Andre and the kitchen staff working diligently as ever to prepare for tonight's Spring Ball. She hoped her request wouldn't put the workers behind schedule as she walked up to the Chef.

"Princess Sofia, what can I do for you?" Chef Andre greeted the royal with a bow and a smile.

"If it's not too much can you have the staff prepare a picnic basket for lunch? I want to go enjoy the beautiful weather outside."

"Yes Your Highness, I'll get right on it." Andre then went right away to see to the girl's request.

After the basket was ready Sofia took it and made her way to Cedric's Workshop. Sofia hoped she could get her friend out of the tower today. Ever since the amethyst incident the sorcerer had worked harder than ever to get caught up in his work, sometimes Cedric would let her help in some of it but that did not lighten the sorcerer's load.

Well, if Cedric said 'no' to the picnic Sofia was going to have put her foot down. She was not going to let that man work himself to death even if it did help him get his mind off a certain back-stabbing raven.

Once she reached the door Sofia knocked and entered. "Hi Mr. Cedric." greeting him as she sat the picnic basket on the table and walked up to the busy man. It seemed he was deeply in his book.

She pushed the book down from his vision and asked "How would you you like to get out of this tower and join me for lunch?"

"I wish I could but I have a lot to do, princess." Cedric finally answered and got back into his book. "Perhaps your animal friends cans accompany you, hmm?"

Sofia shook her head, grabbed the book from his hands and tried again. "You've been working really hard lately, don't you think you could take a little break?" he preteen asked setting the book down and grabbing his hand. " The sun's out, the flowers have bloomed and it's perfect day to go for picnic.

"Sofia...did you not hear me, I have a lot of work to do."

"Please Mr. Cedric, it would be so lonely without you." She asked sweetly.

The man sighed and stood up"Oh alright, I guess I could take one break." giving in to the princess' request

When the two friends were outside the young apprentice lead her mentor to a hill and set their picnic up, pulling out strawberries, sandwiches and other types of food.

"Are you happy now," Cedric asked with a smirk as he sat down bit into one of the sandwiches. "I'm outside and having lunch."

"But your not relaxing," Sofia informed. "You should be glad I got you out of there. You might have gotten sick and that would have meant more bed rest and I know how much you hate those."

"I guess you have a good point there." He muttered, laying down on the blanket and looked up at the sky. "It's no wonder why my family likes you so much. You practically have look after me as though you were my mother."

"Well,I may not be Miss Winifred but I am a friend. Don't friends look after one another?"

"I guess."

After a few minutes of silence and watching the clouds go by Sofia stated "I'm glad Spring is back. I think it has to be one of my favorite seasons next to Winter."

"I mostly prefer this season that way I wouldn't have to worry about stalking up on ingredients during those cold, long months."

"So you do like it when evrythig is alive a growing, huh?" She joked "You must really love Spring." Aftr a giggle she asked "Why do you think we have to go through all sorts of seasons, Mr. Cedric?"

"I guess, it's sort of a balance for our world. You could say each season has a sort meaning to it. Fall kind reminds us that nothing stays the the same. Everything has to go through changes."

"Including us, I'm growing up and getting all sorts powers from the amulet. You on the other hand have started to change your negative perspective of things , have gotten stronger in your magic and gained back some of the relationships you thought you lost." Sofia added.

"True, but you also have gained some characteristics that will continue to help you through many trials you'll be facing this year, like graduating Royal Prep." He informed.

"I see that more of a milestone but your right about the characteristic parts."

The sorcerer nodded. "Each battle we go through makes us grow in both in a moral way and a magical way. " He then moved on to the next season "Winter on the other hand makes us remember that nothing lives forever. We'll lose loved ones and someday we'll have to through death ourselves. I know how much you hate that fact Sofia-"

"But you're right,"Sofia interrupted. "When I lost my dad it really hurt. I had to learn about death someday." Seeing the sad expression on her face he pulled her into a tight hug. She, of course, accepted the comfort and buried her face in his chest. 'You lost Grammy last year, didn't you, Mr. Cedric." Remembering he had lost someone too.

"I did," He answered "but she wasn't the only person I lost...I lost Juliana and the former queen... . Merlin only knows who I'll lose next..."

"Hopefully, I won't be losing you." Sofia muttered sadly. "Cause if I lost you...my life at the castle wouldn't be fun anymore."

Cedric had hoped the same for his apprentice but he knew better though. He knew someday she would have to accept that he would be gone someday and the world would move on without him. On the other hand Cedric hoped he didn't lose her first.

"So what does Spring teach us , Mr. Cedric?" Sofia asked bringing him back to their conversation.

"Spring can reminds us of many things, actually. It can remind us that there can be new beginnings, it can remind us of growth and of the bright things that await us in the future."

A smile returned to the princess' face "I think Spring reminds us of positive stuff too. " She add. "You had to learn that lesson, Mr. Cedric." Hearing that statement made the sorcerer roll his eyes.

The two had talked a little bit more until eventually they had gotten tired of just sitting. "Hey, how about we play with the dazzle ball. You can show me all sorts moves you and dad used when you played together." She suggested as they were packing up the empty bowls and folding up the blanket.

Cedric smirked as he was catching on to her little plan. "You're just trying to make sure I stay away from my work, right?"

"Like I said you need to relax...have some fun for once." Sofia said innocently. "Unless, you can't remember what fun is..."

Cedric glared and crossed his arms. "I very well, remember what fun is Sofia..."

"Then show me," She stated with her own smirk." Show me that Cedric the Sensational remembers what fun is."

Seeing that she had baited him perfectly again Cedric gave her a playful glare against her grinning, gleeful face. "You're on."
