Percy played with the box that held the engagement ring in his pocket. He could see Annabeth sitting on the beach waiting for the fireworks. Her tan, slender body and blonde princess curls seemed to shine under the moonlight…

"Percy, you can do this." Percy jerked back into reality by Jason's voice. "Take it from me."

He turned around. "Dude, you're the son of Jupiter. Plus, Piper had an eye on you. My girlfriend's parent and my parent are natural enemies."

Jason raised an eyebrow, irritated. "Just 'cause I'm the son of Jupiter didn't make it easy. You've been dating Annabeth for what, five years? And you've known her for," he paused to count on his fingers, "Eleven years! She's bound to say yes. You're not afraid of getting eletrecuted by my sis, or getting killed by a manticore, or-"

"All right, all right. I get your point. I'll do it today." he then added silently, To prove I'm not chicken.

"Come on, do it before the fireworks start!" He heard the praetor call as he walked over to where Annabeth was sitting.

Percy took a deep breath. "Annabeth-"

"Shh." She placed a sandy finger on his lips while looking at the sky. "The fireworks are starting."

After a moment of silence, Percy got the courage to speak again.

"Annabe-"

A conch horn bellowed in the distance.

The gray-eyed girl stood up. "Thalia's here!"

Annabeth jumped and ran to greet the huntress. Percy slapped his forehead. When would he get the chance?

The girls ran back and sat on the beach towels. After a moment of watching the sky, Percy got down on a knee.

"Annabeth Chase."

"Hmm?" She turned, and her eyes widened. "Oh my gods... Percy?"

"Annabeth, I'm just gonna skip the speech on how many times you saved my life-" she rolled her eyes as he got out the box, "-so let's get down to business. Annabeth Chase, my best friend and hero of Olympus, will you marry me?" He heard her gasp as he opened the box.

"Oh my gods... Oh my gods..."

The golden band had engraved in ancient Greek, Annabeth, and the oval-shaped diamond was engraved an owl perching on a trident.

The beach silenced. Leo even stopped the fireworks.

Time ticked.

Di immortales! Does it take this long for a girl to say yes? thought the son of Neptune thought.

Suddenly, Annabeth started jumping up and down. "Oh my gods! Yes Percy! And about time too!" She squealed, shook Thalia's shoulders, and started dancing around.

Everyone laughed watching her do the 'victory dance'.

"Woah, Annabeth." Percy kissed her on the top of her head, and she calmed down. She then leaned her head on his shoulder. "Shhh." He pointed to the sky and nodded to Leo to restart the fireworks. "Let's watch the fireworks."
