The Policemen's Ball

KAITOU KID WILL STRIKE AGAIN. POLICE CHALLENGE THIEF!

It was the big rave throughout Japan, that Kaitou Kid was being challenged by the police to attend their own ball and steal from the very neck of the Police Superintendent's own wife, the blue sapphire simply known as "Andromeda." And of course, when did KID ever turn down such a challenge?

The answer: Never.

"You can't be serious," came the deadpan response.

Kaito blinked, staring up at his boyfriend mid bite. They had come to the small café just outside the Beika police station for a quick breakfast together before work, when Shinichi saw the headlines.

"It's not like I asked them to do it," Kaito shrugged, his mouth filled with a delicious crème donut, "they are the ones who decided to challenge the great Kaitou-sama."

Shinichi rolled his eyes, tossing the paper down. He stared out the window, his pretty pink lips pulled up in an adorable pout.

"Shin-chan~" Kaito whined, leaning over the table as far as he could go, his own lips outlined with chocolate. "Don't be mad at me, ne Shin-chan? I can't turn down a direct challenge."

Shinichi glanced at his boyfriend. They had been dating for the past few months, officially at least. Unofficially, he and Kaito had been seeing each for the past year behind the scenes while they worked to take down the Black Organization. Finally, with it gone, they had been able to move forward with their lives or at least, publicly. Privately, Kaito still had some unfinished business with the murderers of his father and the long-lost immortality granting stone known as Pandora.

"Its not you I'm mad at," he finally sighed, his arms crossed as he slipped down a little further in his seat. "I just… there is going to be cops crawling all over that place, Kaito. It won't be like your other heists. This will be much more dangerous. Everyone will be on their guard."

"Exactly," Kaito cheered with a large, somewhat manic grin, "Everyone will be on their guard for the tiniest hint of the Kaitou Kid and doesn't that just make this so much more fun in the end?"

Kudo just sighed. "I wonder sometimes how I ended up with you."

Kaito chuckled, eyes sparkling. "Because you love me."

Shinichi hummed. "Do I?"

Kaito pouted and Kudo chuckled. "I suppose I do."

"SHINICHI~" the thief sang as he planted a large sloppy kiss right on his cheek.

That afternoon, Shinichi walked into the ball room in his black suit with a white-collar shirt and blue tie. He looked around at the crazy large crowd of former, current, and even future police that had chose to attend tonight's event. No doubt, most of them, if not all, interested in getting a real look at the notorious thief.

"Ah, glad you could make it, Kudo-kun," Megure called, planting a kind hand on his shoulder.

"Thank you, Inspector Megure."

"Well enjoy yourself, I need to make my rounds."

Shinichi nodded and looked around a bit before heading over to the buffet table. Grabbing a class of punch, he walked over to a mostly cleared area and leaned against the wall, observing. Pleasant music played in the background and in the center of all the attention, was the superintendent and his wife as they greeted guests. The sapphire displayed elegantly and openly on her neck.

Shaking his head, he kept his eyes peeled knowing Kaito was somewhere around.

The dances began and Shinichi watched them for a while in bored silence. It was nice to see some of his colleagues from work relaxing and having fun with their wives, but knowing his own partner was sure to make his appearance at any moment, had him a little on edge. All heists put him a little on edge, but this one especially do to the increase in risk. This wasn't a simple task force, this was the entire department of Japanese police.

Deciding he might clear his head for some air, he headed out to the balcony. It was a bit chilly, but at least it was quiet since most people would rather stay inside gossiping and dancing then head out doors. A sudden movement in his peripheral vision had him turning just as a pair of familiar lips met his own. A rather beautiful woman with short blonde hair and intense green eyes stared back at him, her lips turned up in a familiar smirk.

"KID," he huffed with slight relief.

"Why are you out here, Shin-chan?" Kaito asked, coming to lean beside his boyfriend, eyes watching him intently against the balcony railing.

"Too crowded in there," Shinichi shrugged.

"Hmm," the thief hummed.

Shinichi studied his partner. Though Kaito was most certainly a guy, he could pull off a dress better than most women. His current one was a form fitting green mermaid gown that was actually quite short. His legs, like an athletes, were slender yet toned. High heeled black stilettos graced his feet and the curve of the dress at his neckline dropped fairly low, showing off his 'breasts' just enough to warrant attention without being overly crude. All in all, he looked like a hot mess, but Shinichi wasn't about to tell him that. The thief had a big enough ego as it was.

"I saw that Shin-chan~" the thief teased, "checking me out, huh?"

Kudo sniffed. "No idea what your talking about."

Kaito snickered and Shinichi graced him with a fond glance as the crowd inside clapped at the end of yet another song.

"Care to dance?"

Kaito grinned and held out his hand. "Thought you'd never ask."

Shinichi rolled his eyes as he and his partner made their way inside and took to the dance floor. Both happened to be good dancers, but no one was as graceful and flawless with their movements as Kaito was, especially during a heist.

"You look beautiful tonight, just so you know," he whispered.

Kaito beamed at him with that blinding, dazzling smile. "You're so sweet," he cooed.

The two danced for a while and Shinichi must have zoned out for a while, because he was pulled from his thoughts when he felt butterfly faint lips press against his neck with small, delicate kisses before the song came to an end and KID vanished into the crowd.

Shinichi stepped away to grab another drink when a scream echoed through the building.

"THE JEWEL IS GONE!"

As the crowd dissolved into panic and accusations, Shinichi stood back and watched it all as his partner skipped happily to his side.

"I see it was a success," he commented.

"Far to easy," Kid shrugged with a grin.

"Going to go test it?"

"Soon," she agreed, "I think its time your boyfriend makes an appearance, don't you?"

Kudo hummed. "I don't know, I like this outfit. Easier to take off."

Kuroba's face turned beat red and Shinichi grinned, his eyes sharp. "Red suits you, Kai-chan~" he teased and walked away.

Shinichi glanced at his watch with concern. It had been a good fifteen minutes since Kaito had stolen the jewel and gone to change. More than enough time for the thief to check the stone, change into himself and return to Shinichi's side, but that didn't happen, so where was he?

Deciding to investigate, he made his way through the gossiping crowd and back into the hall leading to the restrooms.

"Kaito?" he called out into the dimly lit hall.

The sound of something falling or hitting the ground drew his attention. Hurrying forward in a cautious manner, the cracked open staircase door drew his attention. Frowning, he hurried down the stairs leading to the car garage. Stepping out, his eyes widened as he saw a man lift a familiar green dressed 'woman' into the back of a van.

"You! Stop!" he shouted.

The man turned, wide eyed and hurried towards the driver seat door, but Kudo was faster. Releasing the soccer ball on his belt, he pelted it at the man, striking him straight in the middle of his back. The guy went flying and didn't get back up. Rushing to the closed door, he tossed them open and was thrown backwards when said damsel flew into his arms, causing the two of them to fall back against the rough concrete floor.

Tears streaming down his cheeks and a nasty looking cut on the side of his head that was still freely bleeding, Kaito buried his face in his lovers chest.

"Easy, I got you, easy, it's okay. Kai… Kai look at me love, it's alright."

Kaito sniffled and looked up, his makeup terribly ruined by the free-falling tears and the snotty nose.

Kudo's eyes darkened at the fairly deep cut on his boyfriends head and the bruise he could see swelling up under his left eye.

"Are you okay? Did he hurt you anywhere else?"

Kaito shook his head, his body trembling.

"Alright, I'm going to sit up okay, and untie you."

Carefully he began to work off the tape on his wrists, trying to be as easy as he could be, but he noticed the winces his lover showed every once in a while. Finally, once his hands were free, Kaito carefully pulled off the tape over his mouth, his lips trembling.

"Shinichi," he cried, his arms wrapping around his partners neck.

Shinichi returned the embrace, pulling him even closer if it was possible, as he pressed a gentle hand to the back of his head.

"It's okay, easy, I got you sweetheart. Do you know who he is or what he wanted?"

Kaito shook his head, eyes a bit glassy.

"He snuck up behind me when I was about to enter the bathroom. I tried to fight him, but…" he paused and took a breath, "He used something to hit me in the head and things became a bit blurry after that. He started tying up my hands and I bit him, so he hit me and then he taped my mouth. I tried to fight, but… I…"

"It's okay, I'm here. Let's go home, huh? Does hot chocolate sound good?"

Kaito sniffed, standing with his lovers help as he nodded. "Y-Yeah. W-What about him?"

Shinichi's eyes darkened. "Oh, you don't have to worry about that. I got it covered."

Kaito didn't ask and Shinichi didn't tell him exactly what happened while Kaito had headed to the car to change, but he did hear a couple days later something about the dance ending and the police finding a guy strung up by his ankles in the garage holding a sign saying "Arrest me, I assault women and kidnap them."

Later, Kaito learned the guy was too freaked to deny the charges and even begged for arrest when Shinichi showed up during the interrogation. The police didn't seem to understand his fear concerning their young detective inspector, but one thing was certain, criminals would soon learn never to piss off Shinichi Kudo or his mate, after all, thieves have connections to the underground you know, and that includes prisons.

YEAH, no idea. I tried my hand at it. I don't know. Tell me what you think? Thanks!
