Greetings, I am Veran The Raven and this will be my first story on Fanfiction. It's about my OC revealing his short backstory that will be separated into two parts. If you guys want an update to the story, let me know.
I hope you enjoy it. No mean reviews, please.
It's hard to talk about this as I don't usually bring up the past when I'm with other birds I know. However, there were rumours that a long time ago, an army of ravens reigned over the land of the highlands in Scotland. That may be true, but you are probably not aware of what really took place.
I never knew my parents when I was young, born in the Scottish Highlands in an abandoned castle. My uncle took care of me and trained me to be a better fighter. His name was Alban. He can be nice, but also a bit strict whenever I don't get the trial done. It's thanks to him that I feel a sense of heroism and confidence.
One day in training, Uncle Alban taught me to use a bow and arrow to strike some targets. At first, I was hesitant. But after a talk with him, he persuaded me to give it another shot, which I did. When I hit the centre target for the first time, the feeling I had was so energetic.
While I was eating some berries and insects that night, my uncle wanted to show me something. I went to follow him and he got out his own magical staff. He said this was given to him by his brother before I was born, which I knew would be my unknown father. Uncle Alban then gave the staff to me, saying that it can gain a supreme power of bringing each difference together as one. I wasn't sure what he meant by that, but I was content to keep it.
Then that fateful day happened when my uncle had to leave with his army as our opposing sides are over the hills ready to fight. Again, I followed him, but stealthy. I had to hide from one of the trees to not be seen by our foes as I witnessed the battle at wing. When I was little, I always thought that being in the raven army would be an accomplishment to be part of. But now that I'm seeing it before my very eyes, it wasn't easy to witness it.
And that was when I saw my uncle fighting off the rooks with his sword. I was tempted to get my weapons from the castle and use them to fend them off, but I was too scared at that age. Then I saw him. Draven. The sole leader of the rooks. I have heard from other species of my kind that he has come back to regain his throne.
He wasn't hesitant at killing the raven army, which was not a sight to behold. It got worse when Draven stared in the eye of my uncle as he dodged his attacks and stabbed him in the back. I was about to scream, but covered my beak with my wings as I didn't want the rooks to hear. So I was reduced to shedding a tear.
The rooks then went to take over the castle, which was miles away from the battlefield. I walked over the lifeless body of ravens and then I heard a cough from one of them. I peered and it was Uncle Alban.
I went over to him and held his head with my wing. He told me that I was like a son to him. I was begging him to not die in front of me, but he silenced me with a wingtip and said to me that he'll be home soon.
His final words to me were:
"See... the... light... from... your... darkness... nep-nephew."
He then inhaled his last breath as I felt his heart beat less. My tears were out as I held his lifeless body. I don't have a family now that my uncle is gone.
There is the first part of Veran's story. It seems like a tragedy for Veran to lose his uncle like that.
Anyway, comment down in the reviews and I'll see you birds later!
