Yes, for those of you who ready it, I should be working on Alone, but this has been in my head for, like, a week (which is probably why I kept getting stuck on the last chapter) and I had to write it. I really have no idea where this came from, but I could kind of picture it and thought that they could understand each other and are kind of similar in some aspects. Anyway, I'm done rambling now. Enjoy!
The Doctor stared out at the beach from his seat next to the window of the little café. After the things that had happened lately, he just needed to get away somewhere he normally never went. It helped him think. So he eventually ended up sitting at a small table in this little café by the beach in Santa Barbara with a cup of coffee sitting in front of him that he hadn't even touched. No one was paying any attention to him and he was perfectly fine with that.
Shawn Spencer walked into his usual café and ordered his usual pineapple smoothie, which had started being made as soon as the clerk had seen him walk in. After he got his beloved drink he turned towards the door to leave, but he noticed the tall man sitting by the window staring out at the beach. He knew that look in his eyes. It was the look of someone who was alone, but didn't really want to be. Shawn knew that feeling all too well and decided he couldn't leave this man alone. He walked over to the table and sat down across from him without saying a word, and started sipping on his smoothie as he looked out the window as well.
The Doctor looked at the stranger who now sat across from him and raised an eyebrow. He really wasn't in the mood for this.
"Can I help you?" He asked, annoyed. Shawn looked back at him and shook his head. He bit his lip for a moment, thinking of what he was actually going to say before he finally responded.
"No, but I wanted to help you," he said softly. Once again, The Doctor raised his eyebrow at the other man.
"And why exactly do you think I need to be helped?" He wasn't sure if he should be impressed or offended by the man's offer. Shawn looked right into his eyes.
"Because I saw the sadness…the pain in your eyes. You just look like someone who needs help, like you don't want to be alone anymore, even though you won't admit it to yourself. So I figured I could try to help…at least for a little bit by sitting here with you…"
The Doctor was, for once, a bit dumbfounded, but hid it rather well. He was impressed with how well this stranger understood him, especially from simply being a stranger. Not many of his companions had ever seen straight through him so easily.
"You're quite observant," he stated simply. Shawn only nodded. "May I ask how you understand so easily?" Shawn was quiet for a moment before finally answering.
"While I may not have seen things as horrific as you have, which I can also tell from looking in your eyes, I have felt all alone. Sometimes it didn't matter if I physically wasn't alone, I was in other ways. I'm sure we're quite similar, really. To everyone else, we make the jokes and almost nothing gets under our skin. But deep down, they really do…and we're actually hurting. No one knows the true us…not even ourselves."
The Doctor stayed quiet for a few moments, looking back out at the beach. How this stranger could tell so much astounded him. He didn't have to say anything and he was practically an open book. He didn't know why, but it sort of comforted him. That for once someone knew how he felt, that they understood in some way. It was nice not having to try to avoid talking about things like this. The Doctor thought it might be a good change. He turned back to Shawn and looked him in the eyes.
"Would you like to come on a trip with me? See things you'd never imagine?"
Because after all, he didn't want to be alone and Shawn understood.
The end! Hope you enjoyed it. Please review!
