Written for Fairytales Assignment 3
Prompt: (Word) Memory.
Fabian and Gideon are only a memory of those who survived the war. Memories were not the same as the real thing, no matter how clear the memory was.
Alastor remembers the first time he met them; two identical smiling faces full mischief. Never seeing the serious side in life because that would be dull, and those two never did dull.
He was always telling them to grow up, yet they were barely out of Hogwarts. In a twisted way it's almost funny that they never got to mature into fully fledged adults, almost if the universe had a sick sense humor.
He remembers once they said that they didn't want to get really old because they would lose their good looks then argued over who was the better looking twin until he threatened to hex them both.
How he wishes that he had let them carry on bickering even when tries really hard to alter the memory so doesn't interrupt, he fails every time.
Because those were memories not fantasy.
In his fantasies he always saves his friends, gets there in time to rescue them every single time only to be brought make to reality when he sees Molly.
Her grief reminds that Fabian and Gideon are dead, their bodies were rotting in the ground.
All they are, all they will ever be is memories.
One day the memory of them will slowly fade away to nothingness when those who knew them died.
How they laughed would be erased forever, a sound lost long ago in the past.
The way they would grin or frown in sync would be an image withered away until it was dust to be blown away by the wind.
Fabian and Gideon were memories, memories died out; Fabian and Gideon would one day be nothing.
