He had finally finished writing his book. He had just seen his publisher and dropped off the manuscript. He was in his way back to the apartment he shared with his girlfriend, Elena. He wanted to surprise her. He opened the door to his apartment and the surprised one was him. There was suitcases in the hallway. Elena emerged from the room.

"Elena, what's happening?" He asked.

"I'm leaving. It's over Stefan."

"Have you thought this through?"

"I was here all this time, Stefan. Alone. How many times did I stood there asking you to take me out?" She said pointing to the door leading to his office. "How many times did I woke up alone in bed? I've been more than patient. I've endured your last book and this one. I imagine you finished writing it. Goodbye Stefan."

She left. Stefan was surprised. He wasn't ready to let her go. He was going to give her a few days. Two days had passed already. He knew she had changed to night shift at the hospital. He was going to wait for her until her shift ended. He walked into the hospital looking for her to his surprise he found her laughing with some other man. One that gave her his hundred percent attention. It was at that moment that he realized that it had been a long time since he had heard her laughter. He realized at that moment he had lost her. He had spent his time losing her. He had his priorities in other things instead of her. There was no one else to blame but himself.

"Stefan?"

He turned around to see a blonde lady calling him. Elena's childhood friend, Caroline was looking at him.

"Hello Care."

"Caroline for you." She said. "I won't beat you as I promised for I see the hurt in your eyes."

"Who's that with Elena?" Stefan asked.

He had to know.

"He's the new pediatrician. He's name is Elijah Mikaelson. You know she kept covering for you. She reached her limit when you didn't even remembered your own anniversary. You were so stuck on that book that you didn't even realized what was happening around you."

He was speechless. He had forgotten. He wanted to make sure the book was to his standards.

"Is she happy?" Stefan asked.

"I was team Stelena since the beginning but you killed it. This is the happier I've seen her. I've noticed that they have helped each other heal. His family wants to meet her. I'm sorry Stefan."

"Don't be. I was the idiot."

Caroline said goodbye and walked away. He kept looking at Elena and Elijah. He noticed that Elijah touched her hand and she didn't reject him. Stefan saw her laughed at something he said and he walked away.
