He had been thinking a lot about his high school years lately especially that night Caroline threw that party at his house after the dance. A buzzer sounded and went to the door.

"Can I help you?" He said into the speaker by the door and a voice came back saying.

"I have a delivery for you."

'What delivery,' he thought and then shrugged it off. "Okay I'll buzz you in."

He was waiting there at the door again reliving that night he gave Samantha that cake, and then there was a knock on the door.

It must have been wishful thinking because he opened the door and saw almost a carbon copy of Sam. "Are you Mister Jake Ryan?"

"Yes," he said now just wanting to get her out of there. "What's the delivery?"

The girl struck poise and said. "I am dad," he started for the floor then just as she added. "Your daughter."

As he came to again instantly it registered that he was in a hospital room and he looked around seeing tubes and monitors hooked up to him. He saw the call button and was ready to press when the door started to open and a familiar voice said.

"Finally you decided to join us." The doctor looked up as he added. "You gave a young woman quite a scare."

Jake looked around the room and saw it was just them two. "Level with me what is going on?"

The doctor put his pen in his pocket. "All I can tell you is that yes you have a daughter and she has a mother that we both know."

Jake swallowed then. "So it wasn't all a bad dream." He felt the hand of the doctor on his shoulder then and he asked.

"When can I go home?"

"In a few days." Was the reply. "I'm running some test on you," again the doctor smiled. "Just a routine check you know make sure everything is running well."

He nodded his head in understanding and then cleared his throat. "Is she… hell I don't even know her name."

"Mariah," came the doctor's voice and Jake nodded.

"Is she here?" He asked again.

The doctor smiled. "She is with Caroline now down in the cafeteria."

Jake smiled then for some reason and a question came to mind. "Why isn't Sam with her?"

He felt a pat on his shoulder and looked up. "She'll have all the answers trust me."

Jake gave a tentative smile, he wasn't sure though that he want to ask the questions
