Minerva's perfect eve
…
It had to be perfect. That could end up being a very special eve for both of them and she wanted everything to be perfect… that was the word… that was the way; just perfect.
They'd been working together for two years now, it was time to make a step forwards, to say things clearly.
She spent the afternoon cooking her grandma's pie recipe, she'd gone to Hogsmeade that morning to buy some strawberries and she'd even asked to be sent two bottles of French vine by a friend she had in Beauxbatons.
They would lay down in front of the fireplace of her private rooms with the light of that night's full moon coming in through the window, caressing their skin, and they would whisper nice things to each other's ears until their lips would join in a soft and sweet first kiss.
… … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … … …
"This is not right" he said stopping her before she could approach him more, forbidding her to even taste the flavor of his lips.
"Wh-?" she muttered trying to understand… everything had gone just as perfect as she'd wished it to be… until that moment.
"Minerva…" he said stopping to sip some more vine from his glass before continue "I… think you should know I'm gay"
There was a long silence while she stood up to serve some more vine into her glass… she came back near the fireplace, sat on the ground next to him but avoiding his eyes and emptied the red liquid down her throat before saying in a very low voice: "I already knew".
"What do you mean?"
"I guessed it when I noticed the way you looked at the new librarian had nothing to do with the way you looked at me…" she told, and didn't let him interrupt her "I just convinced myself it meant nothing… You make me so happy, Albus!"
"I'm sorry" he said in a meaningful tone.
"No, please… don't say that, you'll make me just feel more awful than I already do…" she said, almost in tears "The thing is, I'd never had this kind of… connection… with anyone before… with you I feel I can talk of anything, I can be myself around you… you make me feel good, safe… I don't know what was in my mind while I planned this evening…"
"You were trying to find your happiness" he helped her, and she looked at his eyes for the first time in a long while. "You don't have to be ashamed… I feel the same way with you… I've told you things I haven't shared with my oldest friends, I know that when we're alone I don't have to care if I'm acting or not as I am supposed to because you don't judge me… You make me feel great and loved… I do have to say I'm sorry, because I love you, Minerva but not in the same way you do, and I just wish I could do it and make you happy"
"You're such a good man, Albus…" she said, caressing his cheek "Are you really sure you can't feel anything for me?" she asked joking with a smile on her face.
"Nothing but a deep friendship I hope you'll help me to keep for years"
"For the rest of my life" she said, resting her head on his shoulder. The evening had may not ending on the way she'd wished to but… it had been perfect anyway.
The end.
