Disclaimer: I don't own iCarly
A/N: Just a quick little oneshot I thought of while writing a chapter for my other story. Carly's observstions.
For years I have watched my two best friends fight, fuss, insult each other and much more. For years I knew it was for entertainment. For years I have seen things go downhill until the bickering duo would say that they hate each other. They never meant it… that was said on the surface so they wouldn't have to confront their feelings. For years I thought, could hate mean love? I never found this out until today. Neither realized how much they had to be around each other. They are best friends and possibly a little more. Maybe they took it too far this time. If you didn't know them, you'd ask, why is this time any different. This time the words I hate you weren't cover ups for other words. This time I hate you meant I hate you. Sam continuously pushes Freddie trying to break him, and today it worked. Sam pushed Freddie and teased him about breaking up with his latest girlfriend. She didn't consider the fact that he broke up with her. If she took another look into his eyes she would see his true emotions. Why he broke up. It was to hear her insults and feel her trying to hurt him. To you and I this wouldn't make sense, but this is Sam and Freddie. I was watching this all unfold and the same words I have heard leave Freddie's lips so many times came out again. Instead of an annoyed tone, it was one I'd never heard before. "I. Hate. You." He kind of growled with gritted teeth while pinning her to the wall. She was shocked. You could see it in her face. It fell. She turned a bright shade of red and then went pale in a millisecond. "I-I ha-" She let out breathlessly. The part of hate she managed out sounded like she had been punched in the stomach. Freddie had given up and let go of her wrists and she fell into a ball on the floor. He didn't look back but strode out the door. I heard a whimper and even I tried to get over the shock of what just happened. Sam crawled over to me and looked up. She was broken. Breaking Freddie meant breaking herself. The last time I saw this look in Sam's eyes was when she told everyone on iCarly that she had never kissed anyone. She opened her mouth and I kneeled to hear what she had to say. She used my shoulders to stand up and stomped out the room strait into Freddie's apartment. After the way Freddie said those commonly heard words Sam's world went white. Most would say black, but black is bad. Freddie was the "bad" in her life and without him it went white. No "black" to try and get rid of. There was a lot of banging and yelling and I hate yous. Then there was a shriek and whimpers. I walked up to Freddie's door and cracked it open. They were kissing… When they finally broke away the three unmistakable words floated from their lips. "I hate you." It was a whisper but very audible.
"I hate you more than you would know Freddork." She squeezed his hand and spun around running into me, smiling. Today the same three words were said as always but they meant something different every single time. Sam and Freddie were different pieces to a puzzle that seem like they never could fit. But they do and when the puzzle is completed it makes a beautiful abstract picture. The puzzle pieces stay connected with three words- I hate you.
