The Marriage

~ Short Story ~

Susan stood outside the church. She was wearing a long, white dress embroidered with flowers. In her hands, she held a bouquet of white lilies. She was wearing a long, white vale held in place with a tiara laden with pearls. Her hair was curled at the ends and a small pink rose was tucked behind her ear; She looked dashing.

She stared up at the stain glass windows.

The thought still seemed foreign to her; She was getting married to Prince Caspian.

A month ago, they had been in Narnia, sitting under a pine tree and feeding each other chocolates. It was snowing and white blankets covered the land. It was on that day that Caspian had knelt on his knee and proposed to her.

The wedding was taking place in Narnia.

Susan took a deep breath. All the guest were seated inside the church. Her mother stood by her.

"Susan, are you ready?"

Susan took a deep breath, "Ready, mother,"

Susan linked arms with her mother and pushed open the double doors of the church.

Guests filled up the pews and an orchestra was playing, 'Canon'. Susan saw Lucy, Edmund and Peter. They all looked grand. She smelt perfume and incense. She looked around for Caspian and spotted him. He stood at the front of the church wearing a black tuxedo and leather shoes. A small red rose was tucked in the pocked of it. He smiled at her and her heart melted.

As the music played, Susan walked up the aisle with her mother. Lucy, the flower girl, showered Susan in white flower petals.

Susan walked up the steps to her future husband, intertwining her fingers in his,

"You look beautiful," He whispered,

"Thankyou. You look handsome as ever,"

They faced each other and the Aslan, who was the priest, asked, "Susan Pevenise, do you take Caspian as your lawful wedded husband?"

Susan smiled and a warm tear trickled down her cheek, "I do," She replied. She gently slipped a golden wedding ring onto Caspian's finger.

Aslan turned to Caspian, "Prince Caspian, do you take Susan as your lawful wedded wife?"

"I do," He replied, looking Susan in the eye. He slid a golden wedding ring onto her finger. A diamond shone in the middle of the wring. Caspian kissed Susan's hand.

The couple looked into each others eyes, unfazed by all the commotion.

Aslan stood tall, "Does anyone object to the marriage of Susan and Caspian?"

The crowd was silent. The churc was so quiet, that you could hear a pin drop.

Aslan smiled, "I know pronounce you husband and wife!" The crowd erupted in applause, "You may kiss the bride,"

Caspian held Susan's delicate face in his fingers and kissed her gently.

"Edmund would now like too say a few words," announced Aslan, stepping back.

Edmund stood up and walked up the red, carpeted stairs towards the newly wedded couple. He cleared his throat, took his place in the middle of the platform and as Aslan handed him a black microphone, confidently said, "A ring is round, it had no ends. That's how long, you'll be my friends," He paused before bowing to the couple and adding, "Congratulations,"

"Thankyou, Edmund," Said Caspian, placing his arm gently on his shoulder and nodding in respect.

There was more applause as Edmund took his seat and Caspian kissed Susan for a second time. Everyone started applauding with happiness for the couple. Smiling, Susan took her place on the steps and turned on her heels. Facing her back to the audience, Susan threw her bouquet into the air. Lucy jumped and clutched the bouquet firmly in her hands, smiling warmly.

Susan and Caspian laughed with joy, they were now joined in a bond stronger than friendship, marriage.
