Luck
From the moment we met, that girl has been nothing but trouble. Sen has acted like an idiot since I first laid eyes on her! First of all, she had a humongous mound of coal piled around her feet when we first met and only Kami-sama knows how she ended up surrounded by coal. And it didn't stop there, no it didn't. I had to tell her to take off her shoes and socks off. I had to tell her to thank Kamajii for bribing me into smuggling her to Yubaba's office. I had to tell her to keep her nose away from the walls when we were on the elevator! I mean, does she have something against her nose? Did she really want to lose it? For all her stupidity, though, Sen must have a mountain of luck because I didn't think a dope like her could ever make it all the way to the top floor without getting caught, especially after we got separated. The fact that Yubaba even gave her a job is borderlining the miraculous. And she's weak too. I swear she's never worked a day in her life. It hurt just to watch how fast the other girls washed the floor compared to her snail pace. She took sooooo long to do something sooooo simple. And another thing, she's always talking about Haku! Practically every other word out of her mouth has something to do with that no-good, arrogant dragon! I would have already plugged my ears up if I thought I could get by with it.
But I do have give it to her, she is persistent. Even I got frustrated when we had to scrub out the Big Tub on her very first day, but she never complained. She did end up with a bruised head and butt because she was falling all over the place, but she always did get back up. And I'll admit she does have her more intelligent moments, like when she figured out that the stink spirit had a "thorn" in its side. Sheesh, convincing Yubaba to give a job to a human like her was impressive in and of itself! Although, in my opinion, her luck did most of the work. That girl is very, very lucky.
Now that I think about it, she had heaps of luck from the very beginning. Out of all the people she could have found first in the bath house, she found Kamajii, the one person who would have actually helped her. She made it to Yubaba's office without being found and Yubaba didn't change her into a pig. But, now that I think about it, she was probably luckiest right after Haku brought her back from signing a contract with Yubaba. Haku could've assigned Sen to any section and any worker in the bath house. But he picked me to take charge of her. I had been complaining about needing an assistant, but so have others. Even though I pretended I was annoyed that he dumped a dope like her on me, I was seriously relieved. The slug people that work in the bath house would have done everything they could have to make her miserable and to get rid of her just because she is a human. Us weasel spirits, though, we're a little more fair-minded. Granted, her human smell did stink up the place quite a bit in the beginning, she is still a complete and total dope, and her never-ending questions about Haku drive me insane. But, even so, she's a pretty good person considering that she's a human. And, after all, someone around here has to teach her how to scrub the floors and clean the tubs. Someone also really needs to teach her that dragons absolutely cannot be trusted, especially one that would work for Yubaba. I guess if someone has to do it, it might as well be me. And anyways, she's been a pretty good apprentice so far. An interesting one too. Not everyone can say the same for their assistant. Maybe Sen's not the only lucky one here at the bath house. Or maybe some of her luck just rubbed off on me, Lin.
