Chapter 1:

Ten years. It had been ten years since Sonic's death. He had died in a tragic accident with Eggman and his robots. It was completely unbelievable. Sonic had faced up to Eggman time and time again, never once even getting seriously injured. I told him not to go, he didn't listen. He never listened to me, even when I pleaded, or when I begged, on hands and knees. I had a sick feeling in my heart that something horrible would happen. Yet, they went anyway, Sonic, Shadow, Silver and Knuckles. Shadow had advised Sonic to listen to me. He had said he had a sick feeling as well. Sonic had only shook his head, and said, "Hey, I'm Sonic the Hedgehog! Fastest thing in the world, remember?" He gave his trademark smile and thumbs up. "There isn't any reason ya guys should worry!" With that, they all left, leaving Blaze, Cream, Tails, Rouge and I to watch them go. My heart had been broken that day.

Nothing could have prepared us for their return home. It was a cloudy day, rain pouring down. Thunder and lightening fought for control over the skies. Eggman had been defeated, and ran off again as he did every time Sonic and the Chaos Fighters (that's what I called them,) would beat him. I had rushed out to meet them, getting almost instantly soaked wet from the rain, Blaze, Tails, Cream and Rouge close behind me. Silver had a pained expression on his face, unlike I've ever seen before. Even Shadow's normally emotionless eyes had a twinge of anger, and regret. The atmosphere was strangely lifeless among all our friends. Rouge had been the first to speak up.

"Where's Knuckles?" Rouge had asked. Her turquoise eyes emotionless, a twinge of worry glinted within them.

"And Sonic…?" I had asked, worriedly.

Shadow and Silver exchanged glances, and they both stepped to the side. Knuckles took a few steps forward, a limp bloody blue hedgehog in his arms. We gasped, Silver looked away, clenching his fists, Blaze gently comforted him, placing a hand on his shoulder.

"Eggman…" Knuckles said sadly, taking a deep breath. He gently set the limp Sonic on the ground.

"Eggman killed him." Shadow said, crossing his arms. His bloody red eyes showed no emotion, though they focused on me. Cream was the first to cry, closely followed by Tails. They embraced each other. Tails tried to be strong for Cream's sake, but tears still fell from his eyes. Rouge looked away, a pained expression on her face. I walked up, and fell to my knees. My heart ached as Sonic's lifeless corpse laid before me. I sobbed. I sobbed unlike I had ever sobbed before. The faces around me contorted with guilt, and anguish. I hugged Sonic, smearing his blood all over my red dress.

"Sonikku…!" I shouted between sobs. "Sonikku!" I felt a hand on my shoulder, but paid it no mind. Shadow gently removed me from Sonic's body, and embraced me in a comforting hug. I didn't resist. Sonic's death had drained me of my strength. I cried into his soft, white chest fur. His strong arms were reassuring around me.

Yes. It has been ten years since that day, ten years exactly. It took me almost three years to dig myself out of the hole I had fallen into. I probably would have stayed had it not been for Shadow. He was there for me. He was there when I needed him. He was my shoulder to cry on, my light in the dark… He was my love. Life had returned to normal, although, it wasn't completely normal. I had moved in with Shadow, and we had gotten married. I was also eight months pregnant, expecting his child. He nurtured me, cared for me, and protected me, never letting me out of his sight. We had moved on, forgetting about Sonic's death. But who knew it would come back to haunt us… Even after ten years?
