Adventures in the Northeast Mossflower Woods – Trouble in the Forest (A Tale of Redwall)
65th Day of the Summer of the Early Birds
It was a cool late summer's day in the Northeast area of the Mossflower Woods. A large boat was running before a moderate breeze along a stream. The boat slowed as it approached a sparsely wooded hill which looked similar to a minature version of Salamandastron.
Kara Feildmouse came up onto the deck of the boat and looked around. She took in the sight of the extinct volcanic hill and knew that this was the right place. She was excited to be coming on this expedition to study the plant and insect life in this area. It was her first such expedition since leaving Redwall Abbey for the Northeastern region of the Mossflower Woods.
"We are here Miss Feildmouse," Logalog, leader of the Guerrilla Union of the Shrews of the Northeastern Mossflower Woods (Guosonemw) said.
"Good, Logalog. The plant and insect life in this area has been little studied. Now we are going to thoroughly examine the life in this area for unique characteristics," Kara said. Kara met with the rest of the expedition and they got to work.

As Kara came to the area where they had set up their food stores, she looked to watch the sun set behind the hill. No one else was nearby. Then she saw something. She turned towards the strange sight. It was like a mouse. Only it was transparent.
"What is it?" she asked, as she started quaking with fear. The transparent mouse looked familiar...
"Kara Feildmouse, formerly of Redwall. The Northeastern Mossflower Woods needs you," it said.
"Who are you. And why does the Northeastern Mossflower Woods need me?" she asked.
"I am Martin the Warrior and the dark forces are moving that have plans for this area that will be bad for those who live here and elsewhere now and in the future," the spirit of Martin said.
Kara now knew where she had seen the apparent mouse spirit before. She had seen it on the Tapestry in the Great Hall at Redwall Abbey.
"But why me? And why am I the only one?" she asked.
"You have an observational mind, a great curiosity and you have known since you have arrived here that something is not right" Martin said.
Kara thought, as she looked to the east and saw the moon coming over the horizon.
"That is hardly an answer! I know that about myself already. I have known that something was amiss. But what dark forces? Are they vermin?"
"It is your destiny. Either you will succeed or the dark forces will set their plans in motion to the detriment of everyone in Mossflower Country. An emissary of theirs will meet you later tonight," Martin said. He then vanished.
"Wait!" Kara said. Martin did not reappear. "I suppose I might see him again later?" she wondered aloud as she grabbed some food to cook for herself.
