A/N: In the book, it seemed like Mrs. Darling knew of Neverland and Peter Pan, so I wrote a little something about what would have happened if Mrs. Darling saw Peter Pan one last time. Enjoy!
He watches her tuck in kissing her children goodnight one by one.
"Mother, he came…we went to…neverland…pirates…" Wendy said sleepily. "A golden pirate ship."
"Who came, dear?" the mother asked.
"Peter Pan," Wendy yawned. The mother stopped and put a hand to her heart and her face went pale for just a moment before she sat down on Wendy's bed and caressed Wendy's cheek.
"We had the most…wonderful time," Wendy said rolling over into the pillow. The mother leaned down and kissed Wendy with a knowing smile.
"Good-night, my darlings," she whispered.
She stood and instead of going to the door, she did a curious thing. She walked over to the window and opened it. She closed her eyes as the cool breeze caressed her face. She opened her eyes to a little boy wearing a green cloth looking at her curiously.
"Hello, Peter," she said. He reached out and she grabbed his hand leading him in to sit down on the window seat with her. He looked up at her with his innocent eyes.
"Mary?" He asked timidly.
"Yes, Peter," she answered. A look of betrayal flashed across his face.
"Your all grown up," he said, tears welling up in his eyes.
"Yes," she choked and brought the little boy up onto her lap and hugged him close.
With silent tears they held each other through the night. Just before the rays of the sun peeked over the horizon, Peter stood on the edge of the window. Mary caressed his hair and leaned in to place a kiss on his cheek.
"Good-bye, Peter," Mary said forlornly. "I will always be your mother."
Peter grinned that child-like smile of his and flew off into the night sky. Mary watched until all she could see is the second star to the right of the North Star start to fade into the morning light.
