"I can't stand this show. I mean, who cares about a bunch of freakish teenagers singing and dancing? Normal people are not like that. You think that girl is...one of you?"- said Petunia with a mixture of discomfort, curiousity and fear in her voice.

"No, I would know that. Some people are just GIFTED that way." replied Snape with an evil smirk on his face that almost made Petunia throw up in her mouth a little.

He resented his words immediately as he saw a familiar look of sadness in her eyes. For a moment he wanted to say something about how people can be gifted in different ways, but communication was never Snape's strongest suit.

So instead he just said "You make a nice tea." after some hestitation, he continued "I could give you some ingredients that could make the housewives in your neighbourhood go crazy with jealousy. I'll come by next week."

Petunia's instints told her to reply with something about not needing a freak's help, but the idea of making her neighbours jealous and having even a small piece of this exciting and much resented world for herself, something she felt Lily took from her was too tempting even after all these years. She bit her tongue in time and just said "See you next week, then."

And Severus came by next week, with all the magical stuff Petunia only knew by sneaking into Lily's locker on those awful, sleepless summer nights. Not that Lily wouldn't have allowed her to see them, but she wouldn't have admitted taking any interest in THAT world. She made him put on a cap so his greasy hair wouldn't accidently fall into the soup they were making. They spent long hours bonding over delicious meals and fine drinks above the cooker. Who would have figured they had something in common during all that time they were living on the same street.

A rerun of that freakish high school show was on again as they sat down to eat. When the blonde boy started talking in a weird language to impress that girl in the cheerleading uniform, Snape rolled his eyes so hard that it looked like they were about to fall out of his head.

"This is something Potter would do! Just pathetic."

"I know! We never took Dudley to see Avatar either. This Navi language is just freakish."

They shared a half smile across the table, then sat down next to each other on the couch as they finished eating. Petunia fell into a peaceful sleep to the Barbra/Judy duet they secretly both loved. She looked almost sweet, even beautiful that way. He couldn't bring himself to wake her up. He caressed her pale face and short, curly hair as he covered her with a blanket. Touching a woman again felt nice after such a long time.

"Must be the influence of my potion. This whole thing was a terrible idea." Snape thought and shaked his head. He silently cast a spell to take care of the mess in the kitchen, then left the house in a hurry.
